Planning on traveling abroad this year and don't fancy those expensive roaming charges? me neither. Airalo currently has 50% off selected E-sims.

As an example, I bagged a 20 GB sim for Turkey, valid for 30 days once activated for just $13.00, roughly £10.50.

Does this have an expiry date? I'm going to the US next week

Just back from a family trip to India. I used a 5 GB e-sim in my iPhone and my Mum used a 3 GB e-sim in her iPad Pro. Worked flawlessly and good speeds (4G). Only slight panic on installation when the activation failed. This is normal - the activation won't complete until the e-sim can connect to the network (i.e. when you arrive in the destination) - in my case, it had activated by the time we were off the plane and up the jet bridge.

Next time use lebara my friend. It offers free roaming for UK.

I went to Turkey a few days ago. Got an Airalo eSIM for $1 and used it throughout my 5 days in Turkey, worked a treat.

Better than the tourist SIM they tried to sell me in a Turkcell shop for 1500 Lira (nearly £40).

Might be out of topic, but does anybody know where to get cheap eSim for Thailand? I'm planning to visit on june for 3 weeks (edited)

Use esimdb.com to compare closer to the time. The site is amazing
  5. Spectre786's avatar
Can I activate it before travelling to Turkey? Or I can only activate it while in Turkey?
    Deal_Er's avatar
You can activate before as well (personal experience).
Plan validity will start only when the eSim gets a signal

Just got back from Turkey after using 2 of these on our phones - worked great and would deffo reccomend doing this. Dont think ill ever go abroad without a sim again - both sims i loaded onto the phones 2 days or so before travelling

Forgot to add. We went antalya.... Worked a treat for using Uber and not being ripped by taxis lol

I appreciate that Turkey seems a good price, but surely the rest of the prices are a bit dear? Was checking Morocco and it's showing $31 for only 5gb data. That equates to about £24-£25. (edited)

yesim worked well for me in morocco in December, the regional esim is cheaper than getting the one just for morocco

Will be buying their global sim for a world cruise. There is an option to include 200 minutes and 200 SMS to go with the 20GB data for $89.

Top cash back is 12.75% too
    Darren_S's avatar
Will it work on the ship?

Anyone have a foolproof guide on how to activate this (when needed) and ensure that only the eSIM is used for data?
    nonameduser's avatar
Airalo has a YouTube channel that contains walkthroughs for android and IOS that's worth checking out.
If you're on a Samsung, go to settings search Sim manager, for me the airalo sim is the 2nd sim. There's a section called Preferred Sim. Change mobile data to airalo instead of your usual one. When I was in Turkey I left SMS and Voice with my UK sim so I could still receive texts and calls if needed but my mobile data was airalo for everything else. Worked really well.

Hi, i'm after some general information,

    1. Are EE contract iPhones 2021 onwards locked to EE?

    2. can you use e-sims with 2021 EE iphones?

    3. can you have more than one e-sim connected to the iphone?

    4. could i order one now and send it to my sister abroad, for her to use?

thanks for any help, i'm a novice on iphones and esims
    Thestudentjr's avatar
Esims are supported on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later (as per apple website). These work similar to having another physical sim in the phone so if your phone is network locked, it will not work. However, for several years now mobile operators are not allowed to sell network locked phone and they need to provide a way to customers so they can unlock phones that have been locked in the past - call EE customer service to find out. You can have more than 1 e sim installed but generally only 2 sims active at any time (unless your phone supports multisim) - not sure about this one please double check
You can order one for your sister to use the eSIM, but you cannot install it on your phone, you will have to provide app log in for her to install it to her phone.
  12. bcfcREDrobin's avatar
What do you do with your sim? Take it out so it doesnt use the data?
    nonameduser's avatar
It's an esim so your phone needs to accept it. I have a Samsung and in thensim manager i can turn off data for my uk sim and use data on this esim only. Works really well for WhatsApp, maps and searching when in a foreign country.

Can you buy multiple e-sims under one account for multiple family members? We have 2 trips to the US within the next twelve months and I just feel like it will be easier to manage if I can buy and manage all the e-sims for all the family for both trips. Rather than each of us having our own account with Airalo, or will it cause a problem if the e-sims go into different phones with different UK numbers?
    Malachi1's avatar
Yes - there’s a really nice dashboard in the app to track usage
  14. lafonk's avatar
Be prepared for this listing to be pulled. I shared an Airalo deal which was similar, 50% off USA eSIM, which worked without a hitch for me. The mods, though, said Airalo has poor ratings. Never had an issue myself.

Airalo was brilliant for me in Turkey
  16. meem's avatar
I have used this without any issues last year. How long is the sim valid once purchased before activation?
    showstopper81's avatar
Yep, I asked this to support. They said it should be valid for a year
  17. dahokolomoki's avatar
Had two bad experiences in the USA with Airalo, never again.

First time, just refused to connect to network upon landing at the airport.

Second time, stopped connecting two or three days into a roadtrip.

Airalo support isn't global. They respond to messages more than 24 hours later, and useless.

I now exclusively use Nomad instead. I travel often (6+ times a year) and been flawless so far. (edited)
    jas1505's avatar
Did you get a refund from airalo? They are cheaper so I wanted to try them first
  18. BorisK's avatar
The cheapest phone with eSIM support I've stumbled upon is Nokia G60 - MrSwitch recently posted a refurbished deal for 90 quid directly from HMD.
  19. bengalknights's avatar
Was brilliant for me when visited UAE, Saudi and Turkey.

Have used Maya Esim in Turkey, straightforward and great support response. Not sure about Airalo as will need to use Esim again soon, hey have had some poor reviews with support etc.

Another approved e-sim store, but no offers shared for them yet by the community:

I've used Airalo a few times now, as has my family (five phones between us) - it's worked really well every time and have no hesitation in recommending them to others (especially for places like Turkey)
  22. shALKE's avatar
Can you buy it now and use it in a few months ?
    Chiptivo's avatar
They have a year from purchase to switching on. You can add to your phone at anytime in that year. Ignore the other advice. It's poor.
  23. Jalal_Mohammed's avatar
Will be going to saudi in April, will this be valid if I buy now and activate then?
    Duck_'s avatar
As soon as I landed in Jeddah airport I walked to the SIM booth and bought a local SIM card, it's better as you can call taxis etc
  24. john306's avatar
    After purchase:

Go to My eSIMs> Details> Show more> Activation Policy
The activation policy will be either as follows

“The validity period starts when the eSIM connects to any supported network(s)”: This means that you can install the eSIM before traveling without activating it. Once you arrive at the destination you can connect by turning on your eSIM line as long as the setup has been completed as advised on your eSIM installation page.

“The validity period starts at the installation”: This means that your eSIM will activate instantly once installed, and hence, the validity period will start to run although you are not yet at the destination. (edited)

For May?! Sounds risky. Most eSIMs expire after 30 days. I always buy mine a few days before travelling

20 gig data turkey esim , used the first25 discount code and paid using PayPal cost £8.12 , went thru Quidco too 13% if it tracks and pays out. Bargain lets hope it works.
Are you allowed to tether with these esims? (edited)
    Drogon's avatar
Recently tethered in Jordan, it worked.
  29. tedybarns890's avatar
Is the esim a Turkish number?
    Drogon's avatar
    data only esim, no call/sms

    Anybody recommend this for Morocco?
    UmarAslamMaatAcma's avatar
Try dent app, and you can buy and sell your data. It's around $3.5 per GB. I am also planning to use in morocco
  31. fahimkhair's avatar

    cecilmcroberts's avatar
If it has trouble using Google, I'd be unsure of such an advancment as an esim.

Was between this and yesim for recent Iceland trip - with stacking codes around online I got down a 5gb plan down to €0.50 - so was worth a punt. Worked flawlessly. Although they were a bit spammy with offers / ads.
    meem's avatar
Please shed some light on how to code stack
  36. icstm's avatar
These are great (have used in China, Oz, Vietnam) and often you can activate after you purchase, so you are not wasting days.

Has anyone spotted which other countries are on sale?
    JoeyPants's avatar
If I buy this now and activate it in the summer will it still work?
  37. JoeyPants's avatar
If I want to use this in Turkey am I required to pay for a separate phone line? Because in Turkey you have to buy a mobile phone line first and then the SIM credit separately.
    Malachi1's avatar
If your phone supports eSIM, you can use this (it only has data). All iPhones from the Xr and most Androids support eSIM
  38. kyser143's avatar
Never used these before is it just a data sim no calls incoming or outgoing?
    kiranmk2's avatar
    Yep - just data.
  39. BattleBorn's avatar
Used Airalo in Egypt last week and it was a life saver. Pretty easy to set up, felt like I was able to use my phone like normal in a country where I would have been getting charged £6 per MB otherwise.

Sometimes the signal would stutter a bit but usually turning airplane mode on and off would sort it.

    Will definitely use again.
    fossman's avatar
I've used it in Turkey and will be buying the cheapest Egypt option before we travel in a couple of weeks.

I will still buy a local sim in Egypt but want the esim in case we need data before we get the local sim. Last year our transfer didn't turn up and we ended up having to use roaming data to contact them.
