Just don't wear one while in London...

I don't feel scared wearing my SMP or PO in London or anywhere else. I think most people nick Rolex, to be honest I'd be more scared wearing a homage or replica of a Submariner than I would wearing my Omegas

That looks like a really good price. Look at this second hand one for sale on Watchfinder:

    watchfinder.co.uk/Ome…789
    Scrooge_McDuck's avatar
That's a commission sale for a jewellers that have notoriously high prices for selling secondhand watches. You've picked the most expensive place to look.

I get why people say they are expensive, they are. I bought this watch about 15-20 years ago (or whatever the slightly model difference was at that time), I've worn it daily so its been nice to always have a nice watch and never needed to buy a watch since.
I used to buy fashion watches but they always died within 1-2 years.

I did only pay £1200 for the Omega at the time, but what I would say is I've had to service it 3 times since and thats cost me at least £1200. The recent last service (inc battery) was £500 and took about 3-4 months to come back. I did really need to pay another £700 to replace the strap as one of the pins keeps coming loose, but I bulked at a £1200 service on something I'd only paid £1200 for, but I guess these are now 4-5k new for the current model.

Just factor in service costs, there was a point when the watch would cost me more to service than my car :D.
    hams183's avatar
These new automatic co-axial movements are meant to have less wear and require less servicing. I guess time will tell.

As a total watch noob. Why are these expensive?
    Jimboh's avatar
They are a luxury item. Swiss made, heritage, excellent build quality, accuracy, aesthetics, brand, bragging rights, snobbery. So many reasons and probably different ones for different people.

I bought a DOXA Sub 300T Conquistador 50th anniversary reissue for way too much money in 2019 when they first came to the UK. I grew up reading the description of their orange dial dive watch in Clive Cussler's books and spent a lot of my childhood seeing Jacques Cousteau in various oceanography documentaries. He helped design the the DOXA Sub 300T and it was the first ever dive watch with a helium escape valve. So, I bought one. Did I need a dive watch? No. Did I need to spend that much money? No. But, the watch reminds me of many things from childhood and my teen years. It was worth every penny and means much to me.

Why buy an expensive car over a cheap one? Designer branded clothes? You could ask your question about anything that's an expensive consumer item and the answers will probably be similar. If you can afford one and like the watch, buy it. Wear it and enjoy it. (edited)

Got the Green one, it's a total beaut... Great quality and a decent saving here, if your looking for 1, this is your deal...HEATY!!!!!
    OnetimePadwah's avatar
Yeah I have been waiting for a deal on the seaweed but there are loads of styles on sale here - I only just got a speedy but it's given me a taste for Omega now

These watches are certified by both the COSC and METAS and can withstand magnetic fields up to 15,000 Gauss. That’s the equivalent of a coin sized magnet lifting over 9kg of weight or the magnetic field of an MRI scanner. This is why it is guaranteed to never lose time as the mechanical movement isn’t affected by the magnetic fields of appliances etc. You can check the test results of your own watch by entering the unique reference numbers (from warranty card) on Omega’s website. It shows you the result of each test which was performed over numerous days.

Thanks for the info . Gonna go diving 🤿

This puts my dithering over dropping £720 on an Apple Watch Ultra 2 into perspective. Feels like a bargain in comparison. (AW not this). Might pull the trigger. (edited)
    lehaandreev's avatar
Not really. AW it's just another electronic device made in china for peanuts. Most people get pretty fed up with the phone, thus would not want a smart watch to go with it. (edited)

I've got a blue SMP bought a while back (current model, same as this) and to be honest the pricing went a bit silly the past few years. £4500 is the absolute maximum these should cost and that would be before discount / haggling.

Aside from the nice wave effect on the dial, and the fact it's very accurate (although so was my Longline Hydroconquest auto at a max +/-1spd and that cost less than 1/4 of the price), there's no justification for the price given what else is available.

Really needs a refresh with a much longer power reserve in my opinion. Pretty sure my SMP 300 has 55 hours or thereabouts, on a 25,200vph movement. Cheaper Tudor models have 70hr on 28,800vph, and Oris have nice in house movements with up to 10 day now. (edited)

This sure beats the Pagani rubbish being peddled on these forums!
    johnbuckley948011's avatar
Love a pagani, very good homage watches tbf, decent quality, good for work or as a daily, I personally wouldn't buy a omega if I had this kind of money, I'd go grand seiko.

I have a conspiracy theory that rich people have discovered the lost city of Atlantis, that's why there are so many luxury diving watches

    Nice watch for a change!

Not keen on the wave pattern on the dial though
    ronstar's avatar
It looks way better in real life!!
  13. MisterSkinflint's avatar
The wave detail on the dial is much more detailed in earlier models and a lot nicer.
Heat for the price though as that's what this site is all about.
    DrunkOnRedWine's avatar
Yeah it used to be much more subtle held to the light with more detail, new wave looks cheap. I sold my Seamaster, still regret it (edited)

    Nice deal

52169420-hjRzF.jpgI usually wear Swiss made watches, but since getting my Watch6 last week I have found it really fun to use. I have also cheekily updated the watch face to something a bit more special and added a fake bezel. (edited)
    mikeyp's avatar
Out off interest, where did you get the bezel and watch face from? Looks neat.
  15. keebb9's avatar
    Heat added

    No built in alarm?

£25 quid casio watch better value
    Walkerscrisp's avatar
You clearly have no idea of value for money. Your phone has a clock. And a built in alarm. There, just saved you £25. Thank me later.
  17. ooooomikeooooo's avatar
If anyone likes the design but doesn't want to pay £4k for a watch then you can get a Chinese homage on AliExpress for £50-£100.
    lehaandreev's avatar
Homages are not the substitute, everyone sees the name is wrong from a mile away.
  18. MrBiccy's avatar
    Will bite at £4450

    lehaandreev's avatar
People will question non unified rehaut and sel gaps and many many other issues , if you wear this. Look a bit deeper if that's what you're after
  21. hams183's avatar
Not sure if the earlier models had this movement though. Considering this is a co-axial master chronometer, it is very good value for money.
  22. Zaphod9642's avatar
Smart watch for every day dive sunto dive computer for the fun stuff resulting a free diving holiday

Looks like 20% off all omega watches - fantastic deal if right!
    Kato_MV's avatar
Looking at the fit and finish and overall design of the watch (which is getting a bit dated nowadays with the helium escape valve) £4400 it's pretty much what it should be at retail.
Omega keeps putting their prices up constantly with no actual reason.
  24. hams183's avatar
Excellent deal. Love the green dial. Black is also nice. Looks like a minimum of 20% off on many models and even more on others.
  25. elloco8's avatar
I have purchased from Wallace Allen recently. A pleasure to do business with.
  26. Ravastar's avatar
The green is on there too…. Oh my.
    hams183's avatar
Yeah I was also surprised with that. Probably indicative of the decline in the luxury watch market. I guess all markets have shown a decline recently so it’s to be expected.
  27. frieqs's avatar
What does the ‘Helium Escape Valve’ do?? Does this watch get you out of troubling situations? Could be a bargain if so
    alpha40's avatar
Yes if it didn’t have that then what would all the office desk divers who wear this watch brag about
  28. RCUK's avatar
Its a stunning watch - i have one from back in 2005 which i paid £1050 for in selfridges.

Always shocks me tho as to how much these have gone up in price.
    frieqs's avatar
£1050 invested in the stock market would prob be worth about £4k now too fwiw
  29. CynicalNurse's avatar
Many reports of Omega taking advantage of the rule that you only need 60% of the parts to be made in Switzerland to claim it is made there. Difficult to know if these are the same quality as a few decades ago.
    hams183's avatar
    The quality is really good
  30. maxamus007's avatar
This watch is a little dated now so the cost isn't justified especially when the competition offers so much more.

    Ugly helium escape valve
    Non-tapering bracelet
    Mediocre power reserve

Omega need to update this model and need to stop wasting time adding small rockets to seconds hands and then charging double.

10% off first order too if we signup to newsletter. It would eb a big chunk off considering the price.

Unfortunately the 10% does not work on top of the 20% discount.
  35. Amz1111111's avatar
Looking for the seamaster no time to die is it possible to get hold of for 6k?
    zaklawson's avatar
    no
  36. Sweetchinmusic's avatar
Is there any chance these will increase in price as they have done in the past?

Potentially looking for investment reasons (and to expand my watch collection lol). Green one looks a beaut and is tempting!
    hams183's avatar
I wouldn’t really buy for investment purposes. You’d want to buy this just because it’s a nice watch and considering the quality of the movement etc it’s really good value especially when comparing to other brands within a similar price bracket. If you’re keeping it very long term and it’s still in top nick with box papers etc then it would probably hold it’s value if not increase a little but there’s no guarantee with anything. Even the Rolex grey market has shown a decline recently. I have the green one and it’s really nice. Looks better in person. Looks very dark or even like the black in certain lighting conditions

I'd look on Chrono24 at secondhand prices to work out whats worth buying. Very few new watches will go up in price, i'd suggest buying 2nd hand tbh. The only new watch ive bought was a Rolex, but thats now discontinued and prices gone up quite a bit, not sure you'd make money on a new Omega unless over a long period of time.
FYI, the next watch is my shopping list is a 2nd hand modern Tag Monaco
