You'll note that they are labeled 'Calcium with vitamin D'. There is a good reason for that, the calcium might be useful to top up your intake if your diet is lacking, but the Vitamin D is too low for anyone that is in any way deficient in vitamin D, so much so that they may as well left it out. The mere 5mg of vitamin D content is the reason these are so cheap.

Vitamin D is not absorbed very efficiently from eating it, so those that are deficient would typically need 800iu (20mg) daily supplement. It is perhaps also worth mentioning that for proper absorption of calcium you need both vitamin D and K2 (MK-7).

As with most supplements, they are only worth taking if you are deficient, if you are deficient in calcium, chances are that you are also deficient in vitamin D. Don't just go taking calcium and vitamin D, especially in the summer if you have not been told you need it. Excessive intake increases you chances of having kidney stones. (edited)

It's the recommended dose isn't it?

    from NHS webpage:

Children from the age of 1 year and adults need 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day

Adults aged 19 to 64 and over need 700mg of calcium a day.

Directions say to take 2 daily.
