Go into it completely blind, look up as little as absolutely possible. The less you know about things, the more you'll get from exploring.
Only advice I'll give is that your ship computer will tell you when there are unexplored things and keep a record of important things that'll help you piece together the story and figure out the goal.
Also, don't install the DLC until you've finished the game as you can come across it by chance and it has a lot of spoilers for the main story. The "Low scares mode" only affects the DLC and only one single aspect of it which is also makes much easier (and less frustrating), I wouldn't turn it on until you've experienced the aspect it affects at least once.
