The Foundation series is Isaac Asimov’s iconic masterpiece. Unfolding against the backdrop of a crumbling Galactic Empire, the story of Hari Seldon’s two Foundations is a lasting testament to an extraordinary imagination, one that shaped science fiction as we know it today.

The Galactic Empire has prospered for twelve thousand years. Nobody suspects that the heart of the thriving Empire is rotten, until psychohistorian Hari Seldon uses his new science to foresee its terrible fate.

Exiled to the desolate planet Terminus, Seldon establishes a colony of the greatest minds in the Empire, a Foundation which holds the key to changing the fate of the galaxy.

However, the death throes of the Empire breed hostile new enemies, and the young Foundation’s fate will be threatened first.

    100%

In terms of how close is it to the source material, where Sandman is pretty close and Lucifer is in name only, it's much closer to Lucifer than Sandman (edited)

I loved the TV series, and listened the podcast...the book/TV series are very different. There are no female characters in the 1st book and no clone dynasty. Listened to the audiobook and found it bit dry. Worth a punt for 99 if you like sci fi tho.

"No female characters". A lot of the characters are sexless in the sense that the gender doesn't matter. Assumed to be male as it was written in the 50s. There are some female characters in there though

I can't imagine it working as an audiobook, it's pretty immersive. For years it was said to be untranslatable to the screen.

The point of the books was meant to be about the rise and fall of the roman empire in sci-fi terms

Well, As a main character I dare to say don't waste time on tv series. Or waste but don't expect to be even close to books both in quality as well as being truthful to the original narration... (edited)

Excellent trilogy of books those added later less so
But his two or three Robot stories books were more enjoyable, I think
