Nice one, Boz. You should have found this for me last year, I started a couple of plum trees growing in containers ... I've been down the garden today to see how they're doing, to see that one has loads of new growth, fresh leaves, etc., and the other one has just the beginnings of new leaf growth. Hopefully, once the weather picks up a bit, they'll soon be in better condition.

Doesn't it take many, many years before fruit trees start fruiting?

Not the smaller grafted ones. Depending what you buy, you'll get a little fruit in their second year with you, then more and more as they grow.

Some can be truly prolific - not so much those sold as "dwarf patio", though they'll produce some. Most are very beautiful trees anyway, with spectacular blossom.

Cheap supermarket ones may not be perfect, but they grow just fine.
