Car problem

Hi,

Wondered if anybody knew or knows about the problem i have. I have a Kia Sportage 2016 plate and when driving earlier the car would not drop gear and the gear stick got stuck. It eventually freed up and drove normal again then did it 10 minutes after again. It is back to normal now and just drove another 15 minutes and seems back to normal.
Not sure what it is but any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Get it checked before any real damage occurs.
Could be something small but you never know. It's a warning that something is wrong.

Also look online for recalls regarding that fault you have just Incase.

It could be the gear linkage.

Assume manual? On the 1.7 crdi diesels I recall the synchromesh/selectors are absolutely trash and prone to failure. If it happens again try double clutching and it might pop into gear but likely needs expensive gearbox repairs.

Could be slave cylinder or clutch related issue. (edited)

Sounds like something going on the gear box. Book it in asap

You said the gear stick got stuck, but you didn't mention whether there was any noise. If it was synchromesh, I'd have expectd you to mention noise, so, in the absence of noise, it looks like you're movements of the gearstick aren't translating to movements in the gearbox, so most likely linkages or selectors.

Sounds like the gear linkage as stated.

I had this on my A3 stuck in 3/4th gear. I just managed to get to the destination as the car was hot (160 miles from home). I was trailered home. My regular independent didn't want to know as it was gearbox related (just want easier stuff) so sent me to a back street guy who apologised for charging me £50 for the work.

Used to have a similar problem a couple of years ago with a 2019 Sportage. Kia looked at it twice and found ‘no issue’. It’s amazing how often they find nothing wrong when the car is under warranty.
I’d bet money that given yours is now out of warranty they’d find a few likely causes that need sorting.

I would take to a small local garage to have a look.
