Chip level vulnerability which can't be patched on M1/M2 chips.
M3 can disable a special bit which will impact performance.

Can’t patch physical vulnerability but that’s not the same as the problem not being able to be mitigated. Disabling DMP by DIT feature on M3 is only an ISA defined method. There are work arounds like using efficiency cores only for example.

"Readers should remember that whatever penalties result will only be felt when affected software is performing specific cryptographic operations. For browsers and many other types of apps, the performance cost may not be noticeable."

If the processor is continuously being upgraded in every iteration, what stops them upgrading starting memory, oh wait profits on memory upgrade options. Apple being greedy, not innovative. No wonder sales are going down and the company faces stagnation.

Apple have already been greedy for the past 10 years and they’re doing pretty well

No they are not it’s a 3 year contract. Wrong info given. U can upgrade after 2 years. You need to read the small print (edited)

Outside the 8GB debate this is a good deal. Unlike on the iMac M3 they have gone back to two 128GB NAND modules on the M3 air which makes it a much better buy than the M2 air if you can use the base model. Side note I run a Plex server off a Mac mini M1 8GB and used have used parallels on the 8GB M1 Pro and iMac with zero issues. If you need 16GB or 32GB on a Mac should be looking at a Pro anyway (though I do see the appeal of the 15 inch air).

8GB in 2024. Is that not a crime?

Evidently not since Microsoft and Dell laptops start from 8GB too for a similar price (edited)

8gb on a laptop for a grand. No thank you. That's planned obsolescence and it's gross.

But MacBooks come with magic Apple RAM 😝.

You have no idea what an M3 chip Mac can do!
    htslough's avatar
It obviously can't do what 16 or 32GB RAM can do.

Isn't the storage soldered too, limiting it to 256GB ? (edited)

Anyone able to recommend a sleeve for this? I don't want a case but could do with some sort of protection so a sleeve looks preferable.
