An absolute classic and a good price for a new 4K UHD + Blu Ray disc

Controversial, haunting and popular from the moment it opened, William Friedkin's masterpiece The Exorcist turns 50 years old, featuring stunning 4K UHD restorations of the original 1973 Theatrical Version and the 2000 Extended Director's Cut. The terrifying and realistic tale of an innocent girl inhabited by a terrifying entity, her mother's frantic resolve to save her and two priests - one doubt-ridden, the other a rock of faith - joined to battle the ultimate evil, always leaves viewers breathless. Winner of two Academy Awards® and nominated for an additional eight including Best Picture, this greatest supernatural thriller of all time still astonishes and unsettles like no other movie.

This is the cheapest price delivered at the moment.

I showed this to my wife some years ago, she'd never seen it. I was surprised by her reaction, she didn't find it frightening and even laughed at some of the scenes, it wast then I realized that it hasn't aged well. This takes none of the enjoyment out of this movie for me, but the impact of this is not what it was, perhaps partly because of a less relgious society in general, making the premise less scary.

Edit - I had an after though to this, I also think that the style of horror has been heavily duplicated and parodied over the years too, making it appear cliche and even corny. If you watch this now, it probably looks a bit daft, yet in the context of its release was groundbreaking. (edited)

In my opinion you have to watch it on an old beaten up recorded VHS with an old CRT TV in the dead of the night for the true experience.

The Wickerman is also going to be coming out on 4k in September too. Great two movies

Hopefully you mean the peculiar, thought provoking original with Christopher Lee,not the Nicholas Cage unintentional comedy fest. .
As for the Exorcist,I'm almost 50 years old and wanted to see it for the longest time whilst it was banned.
Apart from "that" crucifix scene I wasn't shocked, horrified or frightened in the least, perhaps though it could've never lived up to it's infamous reputation.

Looks like the Ultimate Collectors edition (£44.99) and even the Amazon exclusive deluxe edition (£70) are both sold out now.

I managed to snag the UCE from Zavvi this morning.

    Pics attached for both sets.

Interested to know if the director's cut contains the extended scenes but without all the awful out of place CGI which they added to later versions.

I agree that was atrocius. The only CGI that was acceptable in my opinion is the Father Kerras jump cut morph.

The 9h Configuration (1980) is seen as a sequel by some to The Exorcist, it has the same astronaut character in it... Very odd movie I thought but some love it.

Wowza 50 years! I remember showing my mate this when we were kids, he sat outside the toilet waiting for me as he didn't want to go back in the sitting room on his own

The collectors sets for these aren't really worth the money - there's not really any difference between the collectors edition and the regular retail version apart from a Steelbook case and some paper. Same with Duel and Enter the Dragon - limited to a few thousand but it's not like an arrow release where the disc content can actually be different. (edited)

For collectors it's worth the money although I get your point. There is nothing really of value to command the high price it's just the studios being greedy but they have their target market.

Standard price. In fact 1p cheaper at HMV.

But you have to pay for shipping as it is under £20 so this is cheaper.

They cannot seem to make horror movies like the way they used to even with better technology nowadays...
    jagsman49's avatar
They rely too much on technology at the expense of a good story line.

I think Exorcist 3 is more scary. It’s quite hard to find it to watch though.
