Best value considering price Vs function. iPhone = Best phones in the world. The worst iPhone is better than any android flagship ever built.

    Right on cue as always.

    How's that 60hz refresh rate?

Hey - what do you think the best timing is for a new contract iPhone deal? Do providers aim to shift excess 14 stock prior to the 15 being released? Or has that ship already passed?

It varies. Launch prices aren't great but there's occasional misprice, and with it being Apple, the price doesn't change much so you're at least have it from Day One this way.
    Sometimes Black Friday.
I've found February/March to be fairly strong. Not necessarily an heavily marketing sale promotion time, it's just the post-christmas sales lull. Best thing to do is just keep an eye on prices so you know you're not paying over the odds, and buy when you're happy then don't look again.
Also, weigh up the total contract cost, because the price rises each tax year put the monthly bill up a fair bit, so it can be a good difference if you can manage a higher upfront cost.

Buying the latest iPhone in August seems like a cursed move, hmm…

    Good price, though!

Not a bad price considering how overpriced all phones are these days. I was on Android ever since I switched my Iphone 4g, then switched back for the 14 plus (Had one of the last google Huawei flagships). Here's some comments that may help someone.

I've had the 512GB 14 plus for 8 months that I got for 995. (advertised as damage box on Currys clearance but was actually brand new and unopened)

Phone works well and the screen is great; battery is excellent. Main choice was pro max vs this.

Practical reasons to go for a pro max over this (ignoring benchmark/spec etc) : refresh rate if that matters to you, but practically found no issues. You only notice it for scrolling things like twitter it will look a touch smoother but you'd need to be a bit forensic about it. Camera for macro/zoom/high resolution RAW shots.

Reasons to go for the plus over the pro max: Cheaper, and significantly lighter. This phone itself is too heavy and for one handed use and you do feel it after a while (and I have big hands). The pro is worse as the balance is top heavy and the device weight is too much imo. I also think the notch is far less intrusive than Dynamic Island. I found DI sits lower than the notch and is a more noticeable interruption to viewing. Battery life is pretty much the same (despite Apple's claims).

Reasons for Apple over Android: tough one, for me I like Android and actually hate Apple but there are far too many variables and bugs due to the many models with Android so you come across issues and unoptimised apps much more frequently. I have a Mac and the integration is a bonus. Connecting to headsets, cars and rental cars, payments, passwords etc all work MUCH better on Apple. FaceID is super intuitive and the Wallet is great for loyalty cards/boarding passes etc and you feel more confidence than Google equivalents. It's overall less fuss and if you have family members or friends on Apple it makes things so much easier. Software updates are generally much better and with no lag between Google and the manufacturer.

On Android I find Google Assistant MUCH better than the absolutely garbage Siri.
If you need more custom and 'dodgy' apps then Android is a no-brainer. If you change phones every 2 years then there isn't an issue, but if you want phones for 3-4 years then Apple devices hold value better, and generally work better (likely as the software updates are superior and older phones don't get bogged down too much compared to Android from my experience).

In terms of USB-C, I don't find it much of an issue as there's always a lightning charger somewhere and wireless charging is always an option. It wouldn't necessarily put me off the phone especially if you are planning to use current airpods.

Key question is do you go for a 13 PM over this 14 plus. That's much closer as the 13 pm is better value but the weight is still a major thing for me, and looking at the thousands of photos I have taken, very few are zoom, and half are using the selfie cam which is better on the 14 plus.

The new one is out soon and should have USB-C. Wait I say.
    Smoggy1970's avatar
It will have USB-C. I would never have an iPhone until their power connectors comply with the rest of the world!

I have a Galaxy s23 Ultra, excellent phone, let down with all the bugs - issues with 5G, WiFi, Camera, etc.
Considering switching to Apple because everything works, yes its a closed system, but that's good.

S23 ultra looks pretty amazing though definitely a iPhone contender with a amazing battery… shame to hear about bugs

What have apple done to the naming of the line up? So there the standard 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max? With the plus and max being the same bigger size?

O2 Refresh is only available through O2 directly, so you can check yourself easily. Other stores that sell O2 contracts are not Refresh tariffs.
