Apple App Store - iPhone charger in link:

Play/Android Store - Micro USB charger (compatible with most HTC, Samsung, LG, Nokia, Blackberry etc)
play.google.com/sto…use

I would presume this would be a branded Carphone Warehouse charger.

Made by Carphone Warehouse, alongside SimplyTap, so unsure as to whether SimplyTap users are eligible for the offer. Obviously just a promotion to get people to use the App, but seems like a good deal if you need a spare charger for work or something.

Delivered free and it says the offer is valid for a limited time whilst stocks last to new registrations only.

1p charger offer terms and conditions
The 1p smartphone charger offer is for new registrations only via the Carphone Warehouse Mobile Checkout app and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.
The offer must be taken up within 5 days of initial registration on the app.
The offer ends 7th October 2012.
The offer is limited to one per customer for first time purchases only.
Chargers are compatible with iPhone 3, 3G, 4 and 4S or Android devices using micro USB port.
The offer is strictly while stocks last.
10% off all accessories terms and conditions
The 10% off all accessories bought within the Mobile Checkout app refers to a saving against the prices on carphonewarehouse.com

Voted cold here. These will only be basic charger, like you can buy from any pound shop or from eBay for £1 or thereabouts. You're practically paying no money for the charger, but you are giving away sensitive personal data, including your DoB, bank card number, and home address, which is all anyone needs to pose as you on the phone to any company. There have been enough major hacks and data leakages at major companies by now that everyone should know never to give too much away, and certainly never unless there's any reasonable need to do so. Here, you're giving your details away for the sake of saving 99p. I don't think it's really worth it, not to mention the time spent signing up for the new system, the phone battery life lost as it runs permanently in the background, or the extra spam you'll receive from this.

When entering card details it appears to limit the card holder name to 15 characters! Rubbish.
I tried continuing by missing my middle initial but the payment declined. I then got a phone call from HSBC and they've cancelled all my cards. Thanks Carphone Warehouse.

Had the same issue. Account verification is separate email to my order confirmation email. Found the former in my junk mail folder.

Ordered two - had to logout and remove app then install and create another account with different card details to order the second one.

Get the same problem as well...

Thanks for really cryptic, useless message SimplyTap! Even at 1p for a charger, it seems such a headache to order, think I'd rather just buy them normally.

Unless you are living like a cave man where you use cash only (as bank keeps your details if you are using a bank account or debit card), keep all your money in the house (again bank will keep your details), and don't use a computer. All things that you involved on a daily basis do prone to data leakage or hack.

Life is too short to worry too much, buddy (_;)

Folks I tried to order an iPhone charger, but it woudn't let me as I got the same error msg as everyone else saying your details are incorrect.

NOTE: when you type in '1pcharger', you need to use the drop down on the app to choose either the iPhone charger or Android mini-USB charger otherwise it won't work.

Also it seems if you are getting the error msg of your details are incorrect, then you have already probably downloaded and registered with 'simplytap' (even though this app is called something else!) because I just sent an email to them and got this reply:

    ---
Thank you for contacting us, sorry that you are having problems ordering.
I have checked your account and can see that you first registered with us on 01/03/2012 and at that time took advantage of the Thorntons Chocolates deal.
The 1p phone charger offer that you are interested in, is for first time purchasers only, within the first 5 days of registration, so , unfortunately, at this time you do not qualify for the deal.
The offers that are available to you are in the offers tab of your app. We do hope that you find something suitable there.
Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

There's worrying too much, and there's taking reasonable precautions. I'm … There's worrying too much, and there's taking reasonable precautions. I'm happy enough to give my genuine details out to the likes of my phone provider and other such services where I have to give my real details away or otherwise it'll be detrimental to my lifestyle, but giving all my genuine dox to a new service for the sake of saving 99p on a charger that I'm only going to leave in a drawer as a spare seems a little pointless. S'like, if you were at a Pound shop and you went in to buy a charger, if they offered you the choice buying it with all your vital personal info + 1p or for £1, which would you do, and why?

SimplyTap is not a new company. Neither is Carphone Warehouse. Your paranoia is unjust.

The idea of SimplyTap is to simply tap and you have purchased something. The only way they can achieve that is by having your details on file. Otherwise you're not simply tapping, are you?

I keep seeing deals where the companies are only charging for postage of photo printing service. This is along the same vein. You get the customer to sample your wares and then they will hopefully buy from you in the future.

If a company is selling a charger for 1p, then it's not worth the risk.

If a company is charging a pound for a charger, that's perfectly okay.

    Right.

This is NOT complicated and IS still in stock.

For android users, do the following:

    1. Search play store for "Carphone Warehouse"

    2. Download the app called "Mobile Checkout"

    3. Open app and put "1PCHARGER" in search box

    4. Fill in details and order

I really can't understand all the OOS comments and 'not working' comments. Worked first time for me 5 mins ago using the method above.

    I hope this helps someone.

You have broken the terms and conditions of the contract. This charger is for your iphone or android phone ONLY. You must put your hands up and give CPW your 1p back. Failure to do so will result in a CCJ and your driving license revoked

It does not have enough information to perform a credit check...there is no reason for it to perform a credit check. It's like setting up an Apple ID or Paypal account and then buying something online. What would they need to perform a credit check for, there is no form of credit that we're applying for.

went through simples. however am wary about Carphone Warehouse as they … went through simples. however am wary about Carphone Warehouse as they seem to have a loose policy regarding privacy. i was with them at the beginning (10 years ago) then switched – but somehow their sales team have access to when the expiry of my contract is with different phone throughout the years…

That doesn't sound like a problem with Carphone Warehouse (mis)using your data - either your network (or the retailer who sold the contract) has told CW when your contract expires, or CW are guessing based on your previous contract. My guess is the network sold them this info - mobile networks seem very quick to get other companies/sub-contractors to phone me offering contract upgrades.

Surely that's understandable, you'd have to give your card details if you were purchasing from any website, be it Amazon, Play or Zavvi if you're shopping with them for the first time?

It's obviously an offer to build up a database of customers and to get everyone talking about the new App. Seems reasonable?
