Once the battery dies it can't be replaced.

"The Apple Pencil is sealed - its tiny battery cannot be replaced. Be aware that if your Pencil has been set-aside for an extended period, unused and uncharged, the Pencil battery may now be irretrievably damaged through deep discharge"

Had 100s of these in refurb as scrap, a few worked most didn't and no way to replace the battery that didn't involve destroying the device with a dremel. My experience of Apple Pencil as a device that comes through refurb/trade channels is dismal. A totally dismal product once the battery has given up. Such as waste of resources. Apple need to do far better. This is a disposable item effectively. It's ridiculous that Apple can release a device where the battery can not be replaced and becomes landfill.

Interesting. Use mine daily for over four years and it’s still going as great as it did when new. I wonder why so many others have failed?

Yes, they go on about reducing waste by not including chargers but they make devices that you can’t replace the batteries in or make it very difficult to replace the batteries.

This is ridiculous. I’m sure they could easily make these pens with either a case that slides open or with a small screw so you could open them and replace the battery.
They could even make the whole thing with a bayonet or screw connection built into the rear of the case so you can remove this and replace the whole back end with built in battery.

You wouldn’t be able to get a user replaceable battery small enough, these are no bigger than a regular pencil. (edited)

Quite a niche / luxury product but I must say my kids love doing animation using ‘flip-a-clip’ and the Apple pencil on my iPad Pro.

My daughter does have a ‘fake’ one to use with her personal iPad and it’s pretty good for a quarter of the price.

I bought one from AliExpress for £15, as I couldn’t justify the cost of an Apple. It works absolutely perfectly. Just in case anyone else can’t afford one

Same price as apple's refurbished store. I'd rather buy new than refurbished, so a decent price really.

Am I missing something? £99 for a stylus? What's so special about it?
    darkspark88's avatar
Works better than any other stylus you may have used in the past. Give it a try in store
