sorted byWhat return problem did you have ?
Very unlikely. Costco are super careful about vouchers and 100% will cancel the gift voucher. I have never had any billing errors from Costco to date (member for 11+ years now).
Less fraud, more just scummy behaviour. But thats why we have a choice. (edited)
In that case they refund you for your return after adjusting the voucher value which you already used..as they are doing the business not running any charity shop
Costco used to be great but its a bit meh now.
Also pretty high minimum spend but better than nothing I suppose.
Sage coffee machine bought from warehouse, got it home and grinder was clogged after grinding first shot. Cleaned it out and it happened again. Took it back to the warehouse about 3 hours after I bought it and they wouldn't replace it or refund it until I phoned the Sage helpline which I refused to do on a product 3 hours old.
They have definitely changed their return policy so be prepared to stand up for your rights and know them if returning to store.
I don't think Costco have ever run a promo like this before. But whenever I have returned something with a voucher on it, they have pro-rata reduced the cost of the voucher without fail. Even years down the line.
One of my friends used to work in their head office and would tell me about how carefully they monitor these things.
I mean it clearly is fraud, however you dress it up. The issue with it is that if a lot of people do this, then Costco will not run future promos like this and that disadvantages the genuine purchasers like me who actually want to buy things rather than cheat the system to get a "freebie" as you call it. All forms of fraud affect the genuine user base, say for example insurance fraud. They are all freebies gained by playing the sytem and doing something that is clearly wrong. Like I said before, we all have a choice.
Which branch was this? Never had an issue like this. Although I like Sage CS as they send out new replacement items very quickly. (edited)
2. Return
3. Profit
Still fraud. The voucher is part of a contract you agreed to. If you want to cancel the contract, then all parts of it are forfeit.
In the same way if you buy a gift card, write down its details, sell it off, and cash it in online before the other buyer gets a chance
It's not actually fraud unless they can prove you intended to return the item after spending the voucher regardless of whether you're happy with the item or not.
Receiving a voucher does not affect your statutory rights to return an item that you're unhappy with, and since it's online order, you've got 14 days by law to return the item.
As stated elsewhere, they may be able to refund minus the voucher cost depending on the T&Cs that you agree to, but also may not. It depends on the phrasing.
It is a morally grey area, but that all comes down to how you view obtaining the best deal possible and is all about personal opinion.
They are at the store I go to.
That’s certainly not what I expect
Probably due up people abusing it and returning TVs after a few months to suit themselves etc.
They don’t take anyone . (edited)
2nd June start
Great idea I'd do same if I was a member! £70 freebie
How do you know they will cancel? Have you tried it yourself? (edited)
Use the voucher before they can cancel?
