Excellent guitar for the money! Dropped another £50 on the black model since the offer in March, so that's great to see. The finish is flamed maple, which might not be apparent at first glance, but it's clearer to see if you look at the larger images.

I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning these days, as I have said it a lot on hotukdeals... Here goes (Again) Cort may not be a brand that you've heard of, but they generally make some excellent instruments under it's own name and some for Ibanez, PRS SE, Squier and G&L (Others too)

Safe hands for sure! If £250 is the top of your budget then this is really worth looking at. Or take a look at what Andertons are offering on G&L guitars - Some nice options there from £299

About the guitar
The new G280 Select is a revamped follow up of the previously popular G280DX, with newly added pearloid pickguard, Rosewood fingerboard, and Voiced Tone VTH-77 hot humbucker with metal cover for that boutique high-grade looks and solid build quality. Designed with the best possible playability and sonic performance in mind, the G280 Select comprises of Alder body with Flame Maple top and HSS pickup configurations for a versatile sound that can be used for both classic and modern musical genres.

Alder body with Flamed Maple Top
The Alder body provides a warm and full-bodied tone while the Flame Maple top not only adds beauty but tightens up the overall sound with strong high-midrange and brilliance.

Voiced Tone VTS-63 & VTH-77 Pickup Sets
Fatter and hotter sounding Voiced Tone VTH-77 bridge humbucker and VTS-63 single-coil pickups perfectly complement the big robust sonic characteristic of the guitar with modern clarity in clean settings and punchy bite with great sustain when engaged in overdrive and distortion settings.

Cort CFA-III Tremolo
This uncompromising tremolo system features stainless steel saddles, solid machined steel block, and steel baseplate to provide greatly improved sustain, faster and punchier pick attack and a more coherent and balanced fundamental tone. The recessed tremolo bridge allows for pull-ups to raise the pitch as well as pushing down for lowering the pitch, providing further tremolo versatility.

Compound Radius Fingerboard (12-16”)

A deluxe feature for players who like to transition from easy chording on the low register to high-speed soloing and enhanced string-bending on the upper register, the compound radius facilitates easier playability so you can focus on your playing.

Canadian Hard Maple Neck with Rosewood Fingerboard

The combination of punchy midrange tone of solid Canadian hard Maple neck together with warm and rich tone of Rosewood has been used and proven by the legends as a classic.

Cort Staggered Locking Tuners
The Cort staggered locking tuners provide excellent tuning stability as well as ease of tuning and string changes. A simple, elegant and efficient way of tuning, these tuners will allow you to focus on your playing.

Ergo-V Neck Profile
The newly designed Ergo-V neck profile and shape provides more comfort at any position across the entire neck for enhanced playability.

Get the best fixed bridge you can for your budget. You don't want a tremolo at this price point, it'll go out of tune more easily.

If your budget allows and you know you'll play it then you should be looking more expensive else you'll probably find yourself wanting to upgrade in a year or two. (edited)

These are decent guitars and are pretty heavily reduced. Typically on offer for between £344 + Tax on import or hovering around the £400 UK based. I actually think it's a really good starter guitar, that will last a long time. Spec sheet is decent and Cort are known to have great QC. I'd have one if I needed another, for this money. There's not a lot out there that I could honestly say would be better value. (If buying brand new at least)

I'd say that the asking price here for the overall quality and spec is below what you'd expect averagely, which is why I posted, really. If it wasn't this, it would be the G&L Tribute at £299 for me.

Everyone is different though, of course. A few months into playing I wanted a trem system to play with and went out and grabbed a (Poor decision for my skill level at the time) Ibanez RG350DX Now that that thing was trouble when it came to string changes and what not. I had no idea what I was looking at. Took a while to figure it out. Thankfully this type is far mor simple in comparison to the edge trems. I kind of think having a trem system like the one here might do you favours early on (to a degree) so you can see and learn how it functions. Perhaps if someone is coming from a lower end hard tail to this, it's a nice transition at this price point.

There are many budget guitars with poor bridges 100%, I'm not seeing any negativity surrounding this one though.

If this reads as me arguing, it's not meant to Just wanted to add balance for anyone reading. Always happy to discuss guitars and be corrected. (I'm used to that at home) ha

Sorry for the length of this I can waffle for a loooooooooooooooooooong time. Oopps! (edited)

Locking tuners used to be one of those more expensive things but you can get a set for like 30 quid and do it yourself, with many offering drop in replacements. Wouldn't have a guitar without them these days!

Cort guitars are alright, check the QC on it when you get it, particularly sharp fret ends and poor finishing around the pickups. They do however offer a lot of guitar for the money. Not for me this one, not enough strings 😁

Jet seems to be the only company offering flamed maple at this price point, still a very good price for this guitar, it's the golden age of good quality cheap affordable guitars.

    Jet the guitar company?

Last time I bought a heavily reduced Cort from guitar guitar on the KX500 deal a few years ago it was imo barley worth the reduced price due to the poor finish, tarnished frets that were rough and sharp and had filler missing from beneath them on a few. Also the pots were scratchy so I think the guitar had been in a warehouse for a long time. I sorted these things myself and it was a nice guitar but it took a fair few hours work. I px'd it a few weeks ago towards one of the new Yamaha Revstar standards which is a fantastic guitar but obviously at a different price point (edited)

I'm trying to hold off on buying anything as I fancy a Revstar myself. Did you go for the humbucket or P90?

Hi, for a relatively newbie would you recommend this or a Yamaha Pacifica 212V?
    thank you
    phatbhoy's avatar
There really nothing in it. So whichever you can get at the best price would be ideal for a beginner.

I've got one of these in the orange colour and it is a really good guitar and an absolute steal at £249

Steel trem block and saddles, locking staggered tuners, compound radius neck all for that price, totally amazing value.
It plays great, says in tune very well and the pickups are good (although that comes down to personal taste a lot).
Since a lot of the other "name" brands are built by Cort you tend to get better value with their brand.

I think when released these ones had an RRP of £549 and I paid £320 for mine and thought it was really good value at that price.
