sorted byRecommended places to stay neaby: Isla Mujeres or Playa Del Carmen. Tulum is overpriced & overdeveloped these days but was paradise 10 years ago. Cancun is alright downtown but the hotel zone is pretty horrible, except the one public beach.
Cancun is also a good jump-off point for the rest of the Yucatán peninsula. Highly recommend Bacalar, or Holbox if you want a more chilled out time. Then there's Valladolid, Izamal, Meirda etc. etc.
