Not voting hot or cold. It's a good price for a possible upgrade. But I wouldn't build a new system with it, unless yours is really old. (Like core gen 1-5 maybe) but even then probably not. Your looking at a 3 year old chip (launched April 2020, on an old dead platform, socket LGA 1200 (launched April 2020 with comet lake).

Everything is on socket LGA 1700 now (since 12th gen in 2021) including the new 13th gen chips.

You'll also be missing the option of using newer faster ddr5 and PCIe 5 NVME ssd's and the potential % increase in performance.

    Just my 2 pence!

Not really fair about the LGA1200 as the sockets are changing every 2 years unlike AMD.

However, I agree with the rest of it. Go for an i5 12400 which is slightly better, newer chip.

Still a great processor. Heat added. Unfortunately lga 1200 boards aren’t still bargain basement prices

Any tips? I'm after a mobo and been keeping an eye on used prices but as you say they aren't as cheap as last year annoyingly.

Cold for me, and I'm someone with a 10500 desktop that could actually upgrade to this.

You can get a 10400f for under £100 and you're only losing a couple of cores and perhaps a couple of hundred mhz - cclonline.com/bx8…pu/

If you actually need the extra cores then you are better spending a bit more for a newer platform as it will be a LOT faster. Competition has really kicked off in the last couple of years between AMD and Intel.

My new laptop has a Ryzen 5600H CPU, and it does handbrake encodes a little quicker than my i5 10500, and uses a lot less power in doing so!

Voted hot. 10400F is a great price indeed but won't be that much better than my current 10100F. The 10700 will last me a good few years more, hopefully.
