When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

Picked it up on the 2 for £30 over the weekend. Annoying! But hey, the second disc was Apollo 13 which is now £20 alone.

I saw the IMAX remastered version last year, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing it in the big screen. I was too young for the original release, and only saw it on TV previously. The 4K release with a decent surround system, should be a good experience.

I went with a friend to watch it, who kept asking, are you sure this was only a PG (A), during certain scenes of the film? Turns out it was a very controversial release in this country, as at the time, there wasn’t a rating between A (now PG), and AA (now 15).

Possibly the greatest movie of all time, and the UHD looks as good as it does in the cinema. Who could ask for more? Well worth the upgrade from the slightly over-smoothed Blu-ray.
