    Thanks OP - Good deal

I'd be grateful if someone who has this unit could provide the correct dimensions of the speakers (especially the height required to enable to fit into a book shelf). I've found different dimensions for the unit online.

    TIA

Just measured it - Speakers are 23x13x13. Unit is 12(h)x18(w)x23(l) - all cm

I've had this about 3 years - really good unit for the price. Ideal for bedroom or office. (edited)

Had one of these in the kitchen for a couple of years. Sound is pretty decent. Paid £60 and am still very happy with it

Imagine how popular this would have been if this was 80s or 90s

In the 1980s and 1990s JVC were a manufacturer of high quality consumer electronics. Their mini, midi and micro Hifi systems were comparable to Pioneer and Technics. And units such as the UX-A5 Micro or the Adagio series were easily as good as anything Trio / Kenwood produced. This, on the other hand, wouldn't even be comparable to a nasty late era £99 Aiwa micro-system produced just before Aiwa went bust. From what JVC were, winning the video format war, to where they are now, just a badge stuck on cheaply produce OEM stuff, shows how fleeting success can be. (edited)

    Cheap…but I can hum louder than 10w

It is probably "damaged box" because it has been in storage a long time because they cannot shift it. The question is what is the quality of the sound? 10W is not loud and on the right deal you could get a pair of Dots for this price, which might be a better deal. It will bluetooth from your phone, and give you lots of radio. The question is which would give the best sound this or two dots?

TBH, the volume is a factor of 2 things. The output of the amp and the efficiency of the speakers, i.e. the ability of the speakers to turn the electric input in to sound. Speaker efficiency is quoted in dBs.

I don't know what these speakers are rated at but, as a guide, 85dB is very inefficient and it takes twice as much power from the amp to reach the same volume as a speaker with 88dB efficiency whilst 98dB is considered as very efficient.

And, from a quality perspective, I'd always take a pair of speakers with larger drivers and bigger boxes over Dots or any other small B/T speakers

This deal may not be too bad, but a lot of the 'damaged box' stuff on their eBay clearance account isn't that cheap. I wonder if they've discovered that 'damaged box' items sell better, because we all assume it must be a bargain and who cares about the box.

I got this for one of my kids for Christmas. It's decent enough

is it original JVC? how is the quality? I used to have a JVC casette player. It was better than the non branded CD players

Good little deal. Bought for my mother in law as she was after a little CD/Radio player.

great for plugging a chromecast audio into (if you can still get them cheap enough).

I was told by a salesman in Curry's that the JVC brand is now owned by Curry's and most likely cheap rubbish compared to when it was JVC in its early days. I actually found a decent honest salesman in Curry's one day while out with my wife. We both believe that he wad not happy in his job as he practically told us to shop elsewhere.

I've looked at the pictures and the info, am I missing something or is there definitely no headphone jack?

I can see a line in but no headphone.
    deleted2888145's avatar

Not a bad price for a DAB radio, nothing special though.

I had a similar Panasonic set, I'd assume as it was on the cheaper end it's similar quality. Ended up selling it as it didn't actually sound any better than the Sandstrom hi-fi (I'd hesitate to call any of these hi-fi) that I had. Gave the Sandstrom to my niece who was a teen at the time.

Think you're better going the chi-fi route but it would cost a few more quid and wouldn't be an all-in-one solution!

Help please. This is the back of the unit that arrived today. Anyone know what the speaker connectors are called so I can attach to my own speaker wire (not the speakers that came with it)?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
    They look proprietary.
May as well just cut the connectors off the speakers that came with it and use them.
