    Heads up to anyone thinking of cancelling the trade in and keeping the 20%. From the Trade-in T&Cs:

    "If you selected to receive the Gift Card immediately and received a promotional discount toward the purchase of a new Amazon device and (i) you cancel the trade-in, (ii) your trade-in is not received within 35 calendar days, or (iii) your trade-in is a Rejected Item, then you authorize us to charge your payment method for the amount of the promotional discount used."

    You have to set it up as a kids profile, then you sign out of it in the settings and it's the same as a regular kindle

    Just update as my trade-in kindle is finally arrived at Amazon, I got the £20 gift card and 20% discount, and to my surprise, the 20% discount is for listed price before discount (i.e. £140 x 0.2 = £28, turn out it's 89.98 - 28 - 61.98 for kindle paperwhite kids and with £20 gift card it is £41.98!!

    Definitely this one.

    The Signature Edition has more storage but since ebooks take up such little space, the 8 GB on this one won't be an issue (I have about 400 books on mine and still have >5 GB left). If you plan to read manga or comics though, the Signature might be better for you.

    It has a couple of extra features (noted above by another commenter) but none that make it worth the additional cost in my opinion.

    Awesome price, and the "kids" kindle package is definitely the one to go for, with the
    * free case
    * 2 yr warranty including accident damage
    * no adds (a £10 extra on standard kindles)

    You also get a 1yr kids+ subscription, but that's probably of no interest to adults.

    But overall fantastic package, and fantastic price!

    Thanks very much OP. Traded in a 2019 kids kindle and gave me a tenner off plus the extra 20%. Paid £53 and the old one cost me £55. This is water proof, usb c, has better resolution and. A slightly bigger screen and a new 2 year warranty. Want to really keep the old one but if I cancel somewhat worried I won’t get the extra 20% off. Saw one post on here saying it worked but anyone else had success? Cheers

    I'll cancel my trade in tomorrow when it arrives and see what happens. FWIW the trade in label email states "Rejected items will be returned at no delivery cost. You will be charged for the instant gift card amount that you received." which seems to confirm it's just the gift card amount you have to pay then

    Just to confirm if you had the auto discount you don't lose the 20% off when you cancel your trade in. My trade in account mentioned the 20% off but only charged me the gift card trade in value when cancelling the trade in, so cost £61.99. Brilliant deal

    My 20% trade in discount did not apply

    I spoke to Amazon customer service and they agreed to backdate me 20% discount as credit once the kindle arrives

    I have a feeling they are going to try and tell me they won't do it as I bought the kindle "on sale"

    Has anybody by any chance got a screenshot

    Of their basket with the 20% trade in discount applied (please blurr out any personal info.)

    Just so I can use it as evidence to get my credit back paid

    Not sure it'll help you much as it doesn't differentiate 20% off vs the prime day discount (it's all lumped in as "Promotion Applied"), and you're probably best off just being persistent via live chat, but here you go

    Seen a few people commenting on this, but I have no idea how to get the 20% upfront.

    - I click trade in, choose device Etc and it accepts it
    - Then I click buy now
    - Then at checkout it doesn't show the 20% off

    I realise I could go through CS, but ideally I'm looking to get the 20% then cancel my trade-in which I know is a risk. Am I doing things in the right order?

    When I had this I went here when logged in amazon.co.uk/tra…tus

    Remove any open trade in's and clear basket.

    On the Kindle page for the item you want, click the 20% trade in link

    Now add your device or kindle/(kids pink cover one for example £10)

    After you added it and said yes it works no damage and click to confirm the trade

    It should show "contacting your bank" via your payment method to add the pre approved credit.

    Once it say ok you click continue shopping, add to basket and go to checkout.

    You want to see the £78 promotion bring the device to £61.99 before your trade in discount is applied.

    One theory for people not getting the credit on checkout is their payment method cannot be pre approved to charge if they cancel? (edited)

    This whole offer appears a bit hit and miss for people.

    I went to the Amazon website directly and the Kindle Paperwhite Kids 8gb with case, trade in and gift card offer shows as 'currently unavailable'. However when you use the link provided by the OP in the original post, it takes you to a page that shows it available for the offer price of £89.99.

    I used my daughters Prime account and searched for my old Kindle model, which had a gift card value of £15. Went through the trade-in process and the discounts showed immediately in my basket, with a final price of £46.99. This is an excellent price and it accepted my order with a delivery date of Friday 14th.

    My daughter then checked her emails and saw that she had received three separate emails from Amazon. The first was the expected trade-in label, the second was an email stating the following (this is copy and pasted by the way, so you can see the very poor way it is written.) It looks like two different responses melted into one email... almost scam-like to be honest!!

    "A 20% promotional credit toward a new qualifying Kindle device is now available in your Amazon account. The credit will be applied automatiUnfortunately, we were not able to accept your device for trade in and this transaction no longer qualifies for a 20% promotional credit toward a new qualifying Kindle device. cally once you shop for and add the qualifying device to your cart."

    The third email was an order confirmation for £46.99.

    So, I am hoping this all goes through OK and I get my bargain priced Kindle, but I am half expecting some sort of cancellation email. All a bit haphazard from Amazon, but thanks to the OP for the post and link!

    I've just done the same and it comes up as available, it's only the emerald case version that's unavailable, where as the black and robot dreams version (which this page links to) are still available.

    So I think you're unlikely to get a cancellation but yeah this is a strange deal reading the comments!

    Yup, checked mine and can confirm that's the one provided with the Kindle. If you turn it over it should also have some letters and numbers etched into the silver part of the connector. Hope that helps!

    Even if they do, it won't be as cheap. Unlike phones or computers, the latest technology is not a critical requirement for a Kindle.

    Amazon told me to contact them once the kindle arrives and they will give me the credit back

    I am not sure they will honour it

    I already had a kindle trade in 20% voucher that wasn't showing I got an email from Amazon CS to say it's still valid

    I received the kindle this morning armed with the screen shots of HUKDers who got the kindle trade in discount to stack with prime sale price

    CS told me the voucher and sale prices don't stack 3 times

    I sent the screen shot and was first offered £15 then £18 credit

    Not the £28 credit that alot of people got for raising a new trade in but more than I would have got without complaint.

    All in all I got the kindle for £57 but had to use a £15 prime day coupon

    But I did pay £8.99 to sign up to prime again to get the deal


    In future I will not trade a kindle in before prime as that seems to void the deal (without considerable haggling)

    Still well chuffed with this deal which I only paid £36.99 for. Sent in 2 old kindles, both processed as per order. I think this new Kindle is less bright than my old 7th generation paperwhite but the larger screen makes up for it, really good for reading!
