Bought the 18l one from Costco for £224. Cleaned my carpets today. Must have put down about 25l of water and sucked back up 8 or so, so plenty of water for the meaco to get to work on. Humidity really high, obviously. Yet in 12 hrs on the most aggressive “continuous” setting, the Meaco water tank has only filled up about 1-1.5 litres.

From all the comments, I was somehow expecting it to be a bit more effective.

It doesn’t really matter, I guess. I’ll just have to leave it on for a week or so to finish the job.

I don’t know how it compares to other makes/models, this being my first experience of a dehumidifier. (edited)

The water needs to get to the air before the dehumidifier can pull the water from the air, so heating the air can help, as it'll allow the water to move between the surface and air easier

Also, in non-perfect conditions, the dehumidifier drops off fairly dramatically, so an 18L one which would typically do 18L/day, would do 9L in 12 hours at best and that would be at something like 25+°C and very high humidity like 80 or 90+%

In normal 20°C 60% humidity you might be looking at half of that (each dehumidifier is different, though)

That means from very rough back of cigarette packet maths, maybe 4.5L in 12 hours at most, so it's probably working as intended, unless you keep your house at 25°C xD (edited)

They are pretty bullet proof. i had my other one for 7 years and pretty much only replaced it because it started smelling. Make sure you use it with filters otherwise the extraction degrades over time as it gets clogged up with dust. (edited)
    mkohagan's avatar
Isn't that what the dust filter is for though? Like you shouldn't need to have a HEPA filter in all the time

    Any good?

I love mine, I had the Meacodry ABC 10L and while both are great, I much prefer this.

It's quieter than the ABC, the air purification is a great bonus for the hayfever season and I find it dries the room quicker (probably because its 12L)

Also comes with wheels and an easy carry handle which makes it so much easier to move around.

How much does this cost to run per hour?
    S_Kelly's avatar
    You're looking around 50p a day for 10 hours.

I bought this in January. It’s fantastic.
I use it every day for when I’m drying my clothes indoors. I would highly recommend it. The amount of water it collects is ridiculous.

Same here, beats having to buy a tumble dryer.

If I put one of these on a smart plug would it come on when the power is supplied like a manual fan or does it have to have a button press to get it going?
    Frembrit's avatar
I have mine on a Hive plug and it turns on when the plug is activated. From memory I turned plug 'on' and unit 'on' and then turned 'off' the plug, when plug is then activated the unit turns on as that was its last state.

    Every time I see this one, I think it's Three's 5G router.

Got the ten litre one recently. Absolutely would recommend
  9. teecee123's avatar
Absolutely recommend a Meaco dehumidifier. I purchased one in November and have barely used my tumble dryer since.

I really can't believe people still dry laundry hanging indoors.
Washing line is eco best but takes time , effort and good weather !
Tumble dryer probably the convenient accepted way -washer/dryer poor alternative.
Drying loose indoors is just not good -health/damp/time
Laundrette ? Never used one - don't know anyone who does.

I find, Appliance direct customer service is not that great

Been well impressed by ours. Bought about 3 months ago. Tumble dryer is now redundant.

How do you rank its air purifying capability? Can i buy it to primarily use it as an air purifier?

I’ve never used it just for air purifying but it can be used on that mode alone and you can also use the Hepa filter. There is a video that Meaco have put on youtube explaining the different modes

With regards to air purifying, can anyone recommend this for defeating hayfever allergies? I'm looking to kill two birds with one stone: Humidity can get very high in my shed office, but my hayfever allergies also get really bad on high pollen days.
I see a lot of people praise the dehumidifying function, so I'm not concerned with that, but I've not heard much about how effective the HEPA filter is. Any response is appreciated.

I have one Curry’s price match coupon that is valid until tonight 12am if anyone wants to order from Curry’s today let me know (it will expire midnight) (edited)

Hi, can I have a coupon please I'm going to buy it online now!
  18. jazzyb88's avatar
I'm not sure if these can be justified if you have already bought a tumble dryer and have no humidity issues. The tumble dryer is a sunk cost at that point. Is the electricity saving really enough for a 2-3 year payback period?

Are dehumidifier getting cheaper now that it's spring or wait for summer?

    Thinking same

Got a 25L Meaco for a couple of years now from Appliances Direct, it's been faultless

Got ours in December for £180. It’s brilliant. Wake up and just turn it on and leave it alone for the day. It’s pulled enough moisture out of the house now that it just turns on and off as it needs. The first couple of weeks it ran permanently.

also great for the laundry as it’s all dry within a day now. Could do with it running I laundry mode until you say stop rather than 6 hours. Wi-Fi connectivity would be useful to control it wherever in the home you are rather than having to go to it but that would bump the price up. Can get a bit loud but no more than a fan really. Overall it’s very good.

Is this worth the extra over the blyss one at screwfix
  25. SpeedbirdB777's avatar
Got one of these after an old cheapie 20L one broke. It’s nowhere near as fast at drying laundry but it’s low power and very quiet which is nice
  26. WhiteGold's avatar
In terms of their dehumidifying capabilities what is better, the Meaco Arete (which also includes the air purifying system) or the Meaco ABC? I don’t necessarily need the purifying capabilities so I would be looking for the best dehumidifier only - the ABC appears to be around £20 cheaper than the Arete (for a 12 litre item).
    PJ0's avatar
Arete is better. More powerful and it can be put against a wall too. Google ABC / Arete comparison and you'll see the Meaco page with details

Arete has 5 year warranty too

Random. But do these help with the hot weather? (I know it’s not a fan)
