I’ve been looking at this TV too and from the demonstrations I have seen on YouTube it looks like the TV can add the hue lights in the same room to be part of its ‘extended’ Ambilight presentation
Generally if you want a decent screen from a tech point of view, then avoid Phillips altogether.
The only thing that bothers me sometimes, the main menu of the TV does flicker every 30 secs or so if you don`t go into any app.
Other than that im happy with it.
The 7xx4 series is not newer than the 8xx4 series. Philips support and updates will continue for the same amount of time as well. The 8 series has a wide colour gamut whereas the 7 series is standard, the 8 series has WiFi AC, whereas the 7 series is still on WiFi N, the 8 series also has 4 Arc enabled HDMI ports, and all supporting HDR too. Haven’t looked at the differences in depth, this is just what I remember when looking at it a few months ago when the 8 series started to become available to buy (edited)
4k is great.
ambilight is fantastic.
android is also a mixed bag for me.sometimes is fast, but prime feels very slow compared to lg webos, netflix also loads up slower.
big negative is if you dont have an arial connected you cant use any other tv player apps - philips seem to have hard coded it to need a freeview signal so iplayer/channel5/4od will not load! terrible!
On my 7000 series TV it integrates fine, simple to setup and great effect when gaming. Havnt tried adjusting the TV with the app, I use the remote for that. Hue Bridge required
It's my best choice at the moment but so many bad reviews and opinions pop up that may just be specific to them.
Might just wait for the next series to come out, or maybe when it goes down in price.
The best thing that I can say about this is the sound. I've got a SONOS Playbar in the living room and the 55POS sounds awful when not using it, however this TV is amazing. Listening to it doesn't make me want to turn it off and go to the other room and I certainly have no motivation to add a soundbar to this.
The android seems somewhat quicker on this than the OLED, but still a little sluggish at times, freeview play is a great addition that isn't yet available on the OLED.
As another user said OLED is in a different league. But having paid £1800 for the 55POS I definitely feel better value for money using this TV.
My only gripe is the styling. The border around the TV is large, looks (and feels) like cheap plastic. The TV is deep and protrudes a fair bit rom the wall and the WORST bit is the IR sensor. Its a different color to the rest of the TV bezel and doesn't fit flush at all.
Overall is a fantastic purchase and excellent price.
And the one with the better screen. Would also be used for Xbox. Can anyone point me to the best deal please?
This id say is the best deal for Philips tv at the moment.
How's the Android OS on these? I still like the idea of an integrated Roku OS, but if Android is stable/nippy enough, that might be enough to seal it for me.
Android if very quick on Philips ., i have the 58" from Costco only £80 more than this deal and 5yr warranty , when i press the android button it comes up instant and i can go through the menus quickly, loading times are quick too, use mine with SkyQ not inbuilt tuner (edited)
Theyve told you an outright lie there...
Just to correct return within 14 days of online purchase can be made even if the item is opened.
Yes that’s basically how it works. When you turn the ambilight on the tv takes over the other bulbs and the hue app can’t control then during this. When ambilight or the tv is turned off they go back to normal.
I bought this tv in November and thus feature worked brilliantly with the tv controlling 3 other colour lamps I have in the room with it. However a firmware update that hit a few weeks ago has totally broken this feature, I’ve been in contact with Philips who have acknowledged this and they are working on it. The other thing to note is that when there’s a firmware update it does a full reset of the unit, so you need to set up everything again (picture settings, external sources, download and sign into apps - the full thing!).
That's the 6 series, not the 8 series I believe.
Disagree with that and so does whatHiFi unless your a pro gamer or something.
It'll be better than the Bush by far!
Gotta make up for it somehow
No it’s actually better for your eyes, high visual fast moving impact movies can also be a but much on Ambilight for some but easily switched off, certainly for kids at night I wouldn’t have that stimulation on a action movie lol
Hi, I’m sorry but don’t understand why a TV that’s more expensive and a series under this deal would be better? Please explain your reasoning
More info of the selection of movies to stream on Rakuten in this deal:
I have Hue lights. So does the tv integrate with the light? Can you control the ambilight from the hue app?
Return and get this? If bought from them call them to change, they have to honour a return within 14 days of you receiving a delivery for any reason even if you just change your mind as long as it’s unopened. If they haven’t delivered yet even better get ringing for a swap - just be warned you’ll be on hold for hours. Bit of effort but trust me with will be worth it - I have this TV.
Yes it is.
I like it. Decent TV. Ambilight definitely more than a gimmick.
Only thing that annoys me on it is the TV guide info when channel flicking can be out of date. That's the single channel info that appears at the bottom of the screen on each channel as you flick to it. Loading the full TV guide usually kicks it back up to date, but not always.
Yep I never said I believed them
Well I think there are quite a few to sift through - new ones every day practically - all trying to make informed choices. So I would say it’s easily done but yes on this occasion, I made a mistake.
I can't comment on standard Freeview as I don't have an antenna, SD on sky can be quite rough. But looking at your use, I would say it's worth buying!
Good quality YouTube videos look amazing too, haven't tried gaming, I really should, it might be slow for games but I would expect it to look great.
If you can’t do it via the play store you can side load according to my research things like your favourite iptv app (edited)
