I’ve been looking at this TV too and from the demonstrations I have seen on YouTube it looks like the TV can add the hue lights in the same room to be part of its ‘extended’ Ambilight presentation

Generally if you want a decent screen from a tech point of view, then avoid Phillips altogether.

I have bought a similar model one year ago, I am very sadisfied with it, no problems at all, picture quality is very good also the sound is more than decent, but i`ve upgraded it with a soundbar + subwoofer.
The only thing that bothers me sometimes, the main menu of the TV does flicker every 30 secs or so if you don`t go into any app.
Other than that im happy with it.

Even if it’s not as high spec in terms of PPI at least it’s newer.

The 7xx4 series is not newer than the 8xx4 series. Philips support and updates will continue for the same amount of time as well. The 8 series has a wide colour gamut whereas the 7 series is standard, the 8 series has WiFi AC, whereas the 7 series is still on WiFi N, the 8 series also has 4 Arc enabled HDMI ports, and all supporting HDR too. Haven’t looked at the differences in depth, this is just what I remember when looking at it a few months ago when the 8 series started to become available to buy (edited)

mixed feelings about this set. if the HD source is good, the picture is more than worth the price, but if the source is less than good then you really notice. SD is incredibly dissapointing. HD but bad signal (poor sky channels) also have a lack of sharpness.
    4k is great.
    ambilight is fantastic.

android is also a mixed bag for me.sometimes is fast, but prime feels very slow compared to lg webos, netflix also loads up slower.

big negative is if you dont have an arial connected you cant use any other tv player apps - philips seem to have hard coded it to need a freeview signal so iplayer/channel5/4od will not load! terrible!

Super on the fence of buying this TV. Been considering it for weeks.
It's my best choice at the moment but so many bad reviews and opinions pop up that may just be specific to them.
Might just wait for the next series to come out, or maybe when it goes down in price.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and have it in the dining room. My main TV is the 55POS9002 (Philips OLED), both are on the wall.
The best thing that I can say about this is the sound. I've got a SONOS Playbar in the living room and the 55POS sounds awful when not using it, however this TV is amazing. Listening to it doesn't make me want to turn it off and go to the other room and I certainly have no motivation to add a soundbar to this.
The android seems somewhat quicker on this than the OLED, but still a little sluggish at times, freeview play is a great addition that isn't yet available on the OLED.
As another user said OLED is in a different league. But having paid £1800 for the 55POS I definitely feel better value for money using this TV.
My only gripe is the styling. The border around the TV is large, looks (and feels) like cheap plastic. The TV is deep and protrudes a fair bit rom the wall and the WORST bit is the IR sensor. Its a different color to the rest of the TV bezel and doesn't fit flush at all.
Overall is a fantastic purchase and excellent price.

I was all set for the £300 50" Hisense Roku set from Argos until they jacked it up by £50...Looking at all the added stuff you get with these (Ambilight, "proper" PVR HDD, Bluetooth, an extra HDMI), £400 looks good value.

How's the Android OS on these? I still like the idea of an integrated Roku OS, but if Android is stable/nippy enough, that might be enough to seal it for me.

I have just returned the 7304 50 inch. 4k DV etc and 4k blu ray look great once you platly a lot with the settings. I found anything HD and below virtually unwatchable on the Philips set and the software is awful (not android) just read the forums out there. Ambilight is great and does add something but for a little more you could get the Panasonic GX800 which is excellent and a much better actual picture and panel. (edited)

Yes that’s basically how it works. When you turn the ambilight on the tv takes over the other bulbs and the hue app can’t control then during this. When ambilight or the tv is turned off they go back to normal.

I bought this tv in November and thus feature worked brilliantly with the tv controlling 3 other colour lamps I have in the room with it. However a firmware update that hit a few weeks ago has totally broken this feature, I’ve been in contact with Philips who have acknowledged this and they are working on it. The other thing to note is that when there’s a firmware update it does a full reset of the unit, so you need to set up everything again (picture settings, external sources, download and sign into apps - the full thing!).

My gorlfriend bought this TV not long ago at this price, all i will say is that is terrible.... the ambilight is brilliant but the picture/sound quality are very poor and the reaction times between the remote and tv/apps is also really bad and becomes frustrating.

No it’s actually better for your eyes, high visual fast moving impact movies can also be a but much on Ambilight for some but easily switched off, certainly for kids at night I wouldn’t have that stimulation on a action movie lol

Other half has a 7 series version of this.

I like it. Decent TV. Ambilight definitely more than a gimmick.

Only thing that annoys me on it is the TV guide info when channel flicking can be out of date. That's the single channel info that appears at the bottom of the screen on each channel as you flick to it. Loading the full TV guide usually kicks it back up to date, but not always.

Does that really effect viewing though, enough for you to get ticked off with it during general watching? Most of the time I'll be using nowtv/prime/Netflix and playing Xbox, so if it's a trade off that the odd time I watch live TV it's poorer but liveable, and the hd stuff is great, I think I could live with it.

I can't comment on standard Freeview as I don't have an antenna, SD on sky can be quite rough. But looking at your use, I would say it's worth buying!

Good quality YouTube videos look amazing too, haven't tried gaming, I really should, it might be slow for games but I would expect it to look great.
