Great starter turntable. What Hi Fi Award winner.
Information
”This remains a great first turntable.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2022 award-winner.

Focused on sound quality. Pure and simple
Putting engineering excellence above ‘bells and whistles’, the Pro-Ject Primary E is designed for the best sound quality at its price. The deck features a high quality 230 volt motor for smooth running. The main bearing is made from stainless steel and runs within a Teflon-coated bronze bushing. This type of engineering quality is usually reserved for much more expensive decks and helps give the Primary E its class-leading sound quality.

A winner made better
Already a multi-award-winner, the Primary E now uses a totally revised motor for purer sound. Out go the old plug-based power supply and 9v motor to be replaced by a superior, directly connected 230v motor previously used in higher spec Project decks. Without an external power supply and the necessary processing, the new Primary E offers a low distortion, and extremely stable sound.

Easy set-up
Despite offering genuine hi-fi sound, the Primary E is designed for ease of use. From unboxing, all that's needed is for the platter to be placed on the bearing, the belt attached, the stylus guard removed and you're good to play. Both cartridge and counter weight are already fixed so there's no need for complicated adjustments.

Factory-fitted Ortofon cartridge
This deck comes pre-fitted with a top-brand Ortofon OM 1S cartridge. Giving smooth, natural sound quality, the OM 1S tracks smoothly and sounds musical. As part of the Optimum Match (OM) range, the stylus is upgradable to 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 models, giving plenty of scope for future upgrading.

Simple is best
In a classic case of form following function, the Project Primary E offers effortless style through its pared down minimalism. Unlike like some, though, it’s not so pared back that it doesn’t feature a lid – a smart acrylic lid is standard with the Primary E.

The ideal starter turntable, the Project Primary E is still the perfect introduction to vinyl seduction.

Probably the best entry level TT around IMO, as long as you don't mind the lack of automation, and are aware you'll need some kind of phono stage (or an amp with one built in). I'd probably get an old amp with a decent phono stage in it off eBay to get going with. Or if you have an amp already but it has no phono stage look for a second hand Pro-ject Phono MM which again on eBay will be £30-40 probably and a good match to this. (edited)

I agree with you. If I was starting out this would be my choice, especially at this price. You've probably got to pay 4 or 5 times this price to hear any real difference.. but it is the start to a very slippery, and expensive, slope

This comes in and out of stock all the time so just keep checking back if you want it. There’s some complaints online about the drive belt but I honestly haven’t had any issues at all, just need to watch where you are putting your hands when you remove a record. Sound is excellent.

Decent turntable. I had one of these before getting an AudioTechnica AT-LP120. Word of warning, the drive belt is very easy to knock loose whilst placing and removing records and can be very fiddly to sort out.

Just got mine through the post. Had a pair of sl1210s back in the DJ 90s. This belt system took a while to figure out. An wasn’t aware I needed a pre amp. Now I realise the mixer had one it it already hahah
