Peru is a great place to visit. Lots of pre-european and spanish colonization history. Also if you have the time it's worth going to the beaches in the north - there are nice and cheap buses going there from Lima.

I guess 99% of the tourists going to Peru want to see Matchu Pikchu, but it's closed right now. Hopefully it gets reopen by next year. Even if it is, Jan and Feb are in the rainy season and not the best time to visit.

Have never been to Peru and am tempted . Is this a reasonable price? What is the typical price one pays? Are there any other dates available possibly with longer stays?
Isn't this the rainy season? (edited)

It is the rainy season until end of March, but it’s still worth the visit. I have just paid £1060 for return for end of April flights which is typical price. Usually tickets for Jan-March would cost you £700. (edited)

Lima is a dive but recommend Peru in general. Cheap, beautiful with plenty to do. Epic place for trekking if that's your thing!
Weather is reasonable (remember southern hemisphere so it's their summer).

Epic price. Think I saw a similar deal stopping in Brazil from Spain.

A dive? When did you visit? I have been twice and traveled extensively around South America and can assure you that Lima is far from a dive. I agree the rest of Peru is better for history and culture but Lima is safe, clean and modern.

I went to Lima and Trujillo in April a few year ago. Lima was good, but Trujillo was amazing. Food, culture, architecture, beaches, sight seeing, nightlife. It was amazing.

One tip for anyone going - learn some Spanish before you head out. It will make life a lot easier.

Some political unrest is unfolding in Peru. So proceed with caution

Agreed. Also there has been very bad flooding in parts of the country recently. Some homework needed.
