This is James Clavell's tour-de-force; an epic saga of one Pilot-Major John Blackthorne, and his integration into the struggles and strife of feudal Japan. Both entertaining and incisive, SHOGUN is a stunningly dramatic re-creation of a very different world.

Starting with his shipwreck on this most alien of shores, the novel charts Blackthorne's rise from the status of reviled foreigner up to the hights of trusted advisor and eventually, Samurai. All as civil war looms over the fragile country.

    Super read.

I'd recommend to reading before watching the TV show though. Although I have heard it is a great adaptation.

It's not bad really, some interesting characters. Disconcertinlgy brutal though, but I'd imagine that's accurate

An amazing audiobook too. All James clavell books are based on true stores. Just found out one of the characters from Gui Jin is a real person who restored the emperor, helped created the Japanese navy, rail system, mitisubishi, kirin brewery and modern industrial Japan.

The whole Asian Saga series is great - Shogun, Taipan, Gaijin and Noble House. And I am impressed with the new TV show.
