Was shopping for a new microwave to replace our current one that literally exploded!

The ML-EM23P(SS) currently priced at £69.99 is pretty much identical to the
ML-EM23P(BS) that costs £87.99 (showing as 18% off)

Only difference between the two that I can see is that the SS = Stainless Steel and the BS = Black Stainless Steel

It's not got a Grill, just a plain old Microwave , but this didn’t bother me as I think we used the Grill on our old machine exactly once in the 10 years that we had it!

May be of benefit to anyone else shopping for new Microwave that’s 23 litre instead of the smaller 20 litre versions at this price point. It’s got loads of pretty good reviews too!

Interior is not stainless steel. Some kind of easy clean paint over mild steel... seems like after a while the misture and steam get in under and start causing corrosion leading to bubbling of the paint.

I was gonna get this when it was £49, decided against it.

Agreed, have a different Toshiba model and it is by far the worst microwave we've ever bought. Same issue as above, interior paint slowly flaking away to the point where it would inevitably start dropping into food/beverages. It wasn't even particularly good at its basic job, the focus to the heat was far from even, and even doing something like softening cold butter on lowest power setting would mean a dripping centre and a still solid "block" around it. Won't touch these again. It wasn't even old when it started flaking badly. Just checked Amazon and we purchased it in October 2020. Stay clear. (edited)

Is just me but do cheaper standalone microwaves do better job compared to more expensive fully feature loaded variants.

Fun fact, they are almost all identical in terms of the actual microwave ability, just the programmer bits that differ. Just go for whichever has the most suitable user experience for a decent price. Brand loyalty is almost irrelevant!

I do like the extra control a number pad gives you when entering the cooking time.
If you want 7 seconds it can be easily done for example.

Don't want to get sued or anything :-) the "Bookworks" microwave served us well for many years it just had a very unfortunate and rather frightening end

Got this for £59 in 2020 and it hasn't missed a beat.

Theres a way to test for a good microwave. Put a dry plate in for 1 minute, if it heats up it's good.
