HEAT OP, these are great, you can cook amazing steaks on these, just buy a grate to go over the top or use your normal BBQ one. The heat you get (from a lot less charcoal/bricks etc.) is amazing. I saw it demonstrated by the ginger mythbusters guy on youtube. Also good if you're cooking for 1 or 2. (edited)

I use this Afterburner Grate on top of my ProQ chimney (to big for this one on here) but fits all 19cm Chimney Starters. as you say great for a quick 2 minute either side Skirt or Denver steak or even a pork chop

My full size chimney starter doesn't seem to hold anywhere near enough charcoal for my BBQ (which isn't massive).
How do people go about getting enough charcoal ready to cook on please?

Fill it up, once coals are white hot, spread out and add another fresh layer of charcoal on top of the white coals on the bbq, they should light very quickly. Tbh, the large size Weber should do fine for most bbqs (edited)

Is there much difference between the Weber ones and the much cheaper non branded ones? Voted hot on a good deal

The other difference that others haven’t mentioned yet is that the Weber has a cone shaped grill inside, where lots of the other brands (not all) are flat inside. The cone shape improves the chimney effect so the charcoal gets hotter quicker.

These are a BBQ game changer and a must buy.

I bought this compact version recently, it’s the perfect size to use with a Weber Go-Anywhere (and if you chop the grill of the Go-Anywhere in half, this starter will comfortably fit inside).

are you sure it won't fit the Weber? Isn't a bit too big OK? Thanks.

It will fill the full the sized Chimney starter and be secure and would fit this one but would have overhang as this is only 15cm diameter compared to the 19cm plate itself

Great for briquettes - but not so good for lump wood charcoal. (The smaller pieces fall right through…) Heat.

Mesh the bottom or block with natural lighters/bigger charcoal pieces

These are how a BBQ should be done. Forget using paraffin fire starters that taint your food.
A few twigs in amongst the charcoal and light a single sheet of newspaper in base. Job done.
NOTE: This listing is for the small Weber. I’d recommend the large one as the small is never enough.

I sit mine on top of a portable butane gas hob, takes a few minutes before you’ve got white hot coals

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, tried it weekend just gone and it was really good, really easy to use, and very effective.

Ordered thanks. Have been waiting for this to drop in price. Have the full-size one but wanted this to fit in my go-anywhere BBQ.

Is there different sizes for size of bbq. Or all the same?

I use this on my Pit Barrel (as it fits inside and can be tipped up) or Mastertouch if I need smaller amounts of lighted charcoal if doing lo&slo or you have a Weber Go-Anywhere.

The bigger one is ideal if you want a lot of hot coals for a normal BBQ

What does portable mean in the title?
    Gigasonix's avatar
It’s smaller than the bigger size that they also make
