I've hired one from the rug doctor (there's a small locker in my local Tesco and Asda) recently. I bought Astonish carpet cleaning liquid from Home Bargains for £1.99 I think. Carpets came up nice and fresh!
I've got a vax rapide power plus and it is very good. Much better than its predecessor.
