Panasonic SC-HTB20EBK soundbar no audio
Hello - my sound bar stopped working after 5years with low use. any ideas how to fix?
Connected to TV via hdmi arc port
The unit switches on but continues to output via tv speaker
TV cannot detect 2nd sound output
Ive tried a different hdmi cable for the same arc port
Tried a different cable in a normal hdmi port
Soundbar has optical connection but no cables to test.

sorted byThe lump is a ferrite core. Pretty standard on cables and used to 'dampen' electromagnetic noise.
Have you switched internal speakers off via TV menu?
Do you have an ARC option in TV audio?
No settings on tv or sound bar was changed over since purchase.
I was able to use sound bar either pressing the power button on sound bar OR
selecting Sound HDMI on the TV sound setting option.

I have a spare TV i can test on however it has only one HDMI port and scart port. Not sure if I have a scart source that can display content on TV.
Yep, normally I have it on TV. I changed the source on soundbar, and used the ARC port on TV as well as normal.
Made no difference.
Could the HDMI cable be faulty? The supplied HDMI cable has a fat chunk on each end, do you think the cable is specifc for this use and is that why a normal HDMI cable is not working?
That doesnt sound good, have you tried connecting it to another device to see if there is a problem with either the soundbar or the TV?
If its the Soundbar you may have to get a replacement (insurance or warranty ((ive had mine a while so i think mines out of warranty))
I know for sure all 3 HDMI ports on the TV are working as they all display picture and sound when a firestick is connected.
I do have a spare tv however like I said it has only one HDMI port and it will be a challenge finding a SCART source which has WIFI!!!!!!!
Did you not try another HDMI cable?
When you say 'fat chunk' is it a standard HDMI terminal or something else?
I tried another working HDMI cable = no luck.
Fat chunks meaning it's standard hdmi cable connection however around 5cm from the metal plate on each end, there is a lump in the cable. Not sure how to explain this, see below:

Game console ps4 won't work due to connectivity.
Do you have an internal / external aerial (or could you borrow a portable one) or even an old dvd player with scart to use as an input test device?
Can you connect the PS4 to your soundbar with a HDMI cable and then connect the soundbar to the TV with another HDMI cable? Really all you want to do is just plug something in to the soundbar and hear if there is sound, can you not just buy a 3.5mm audio cable for £1 from Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M, etc and connect your phone to the soundbar to test it?
Pretty sure the PS4 only has one hdmi port.
No 3.5mm jack on sound bar.
Will get an optical cable tomorrow and test. If works I can live that!
No old dvd player.
I do have couple of youview & sky boxes I'll see if anyone of those has 2 hdmi ports to test.

Yes, the PS4 only has one HDMI port but what I'm saying to you is to connect your PS4 directly to your soundbar with a HDMI cable to the 'AV IN' HMDI port on your soundbar and then press 'BD/DVD on the remote' and see if you can hear anything. You don't need an optical cable as the sound will go via the HDMI cable.

Reading your original post and also this one about checking to see if any of your Youview or Sky boxes have 2 HDMI ports makes me think that might be a little bit confused by how the HDMI Arc works. Essentially it's this, your soundbar is going to be handling the sound from all your AV devices, such as your sky box, games console, and the TV itself. You can connect one device directly to the soundbar via a HDMI cable via the AV IN (typically for a DVD or BD Player) lets say your PS4), and then you connect another HDMI cable from the soundbar to your tv. So to listen and see your device connected to your AV IN port you press the BD/DVD button on the remote. The TV is connected to the soundbar via a HDMI cable, so you mute the speakers on your tv itself with it's own remote, and press the TV button on the soundbar's remote to hear the sound from it. But here's the good thing now, you can connect several other devices to your tv (such as a sky box or a different game console) via the HDMI ports on the back of it, and then by selecting the corresponding input on the TV's remote control as long as your soundbar is still set to TV mode then you'll hear the audio or whatever device you are watching (ie the Sky Box), you'll hear the audio from it via the soundbar, without having to connect each individual device to the soundbar directly. Does that make things clear for you on how it all works? You do also have the option of connecting your devices to the soundbar with an optical cable, but this way you don't have to.
Thanks for the explanation. This was the set up I originally had and use to work perfectly, no issues.
On my Sammy there is no option to stop sound coming from TV speakers. Either I manually select which sound source to use or to force sound bar I would press the power button. I don't usually have sound bar running unless im watching a movie.
Its just yesterday I noticed the sound bar not outputting audio. The objective is now to identify if the soundbar is faulty with the hdmi connection ports or the complete unit. (edited)
Just use the remote of the TV to turn the sound on it right down to zero. I really can't believe that there is a TV set out there that you can't mute.
Hi - I did this and can now hear the Audio coming from the sound bar. Setup as follows:
TV to soundbar : hdmi arc port on tv
Question is now, how to connect get TV audio coming when only TV and sound bar connected? (edited)

My ultimate goal really is to get TV audio to play via sound bar.
Tried that and switched TV to a normal channel, and sound was coming from TV
Right, just turn the sound down on the tv remote control so that nothing is coming out of the speakers and then press the TV button on your soundbar remote control?
Right just did that and maxed the sound bar volume and still nothing.
I also noticed the PS4 sound is playing when switching to DvD port, the PCM light switches on the sound bar.
Did a factory reset on the TV and issue resolved. Using the original set up as stated above: hdmi cable in TV port for sound bar and ARC port on TV. I can continue to use TV remote to adjust volume for sound bar without having to mute TV speakers.
