This may not be for everyone, but looks a decent price with a 12 month warranty on an A Grade refurb. The CPU is a 4 core 8th gen, that has a base clock of 1.6GHz and a boost of 3.4GHz.

It's nice and portable and carries 8 GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Ideal for office / work use as well as all the standard day to day type tasks. If you're rendering videos and what not, this won't be for you.

Laptopoutlet have lower grade models on eBay for less, however there's only a 3 month warranty there and the possibility of dents and scratches, wheras this one is described as

"A Grade. These are Open boxed / returned units in pristine condition. They are professionally tested and restored to Factory default state. Cosmetically they would be in excellent condition. They have original accessories and come with Warranty for customers’ peace of mind." (1 Year Warranty)

Viglen. Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time... Nothing inherently bad with their products from what I recall, they have been around for years. I expect this is a pretty generic OEM device that has been rebadged. (edited)

Wow. Not heard that name since the 80s. We bought a 386DX (33Mhz with the turbo button pressed) from their Hanger Lane showroom.
Quality kit. Think they went downhill after Sugar bought it though. (edited)

Unless you definitely need touchscreen deals at £400 keep popping up with current gen Ryzen CPUs - i5-8250U battery life is not great and it was released in 2017. Some examples:

    What brand is Viglen lol

I'm sure it's related to Amstrad from years back. Amstrad being the company Alan Sugar started.

It was a highly rated brand back in the days when a DX4-100 was hot stuff.

Not having USB charge means the total weight is likely prohibitive. Check out the more recent Lenovo ones here. Near/new for less maybe. (edited)

Ah those days, going through PC Magazine comparing the DX2-66's vs the DX4-100's.

I bought one of these back in November 2019. It's still going strong and there are no present issues. The USB-C port DOES charge the laptop and I haven't used the charging brick since purchase. The fingerprint reader is far superior to my Dell 2-in-1 that is well over twice the price - and the bonus is that the keyboard doesn't keep spontaneously detaching like with the bloody Dell. From others' commments I would agree that there are quality control problems, hence the mixed reviews. The touchscreen stopped working on mine after 3 months - I'm happy to report that Viglen/XMA's customer service was excellent and swapped out the screen without fuss.
For any of you wanting to dual boot Linux: I upgraded the SSD to 512Gb and loaded Manjaro - only the fingerprint reader doesn't work. Recommended.

Looks like its owned by XMA/Westcoast Ltd which is a pretty big business but was previously owned by Alan Sugar/Amstrad.

Not seeing a lot of reviews to be able to determine if their build quality is any good though.

Sure Viglen are or still in the education side of things or they were before they got bought out by XMA.

I used to work in the same sector and I'm not sure if laptops were built here in the UK at all more than likely imported from Asia already branded Viglen.

    A what?? LOL

Over 300 notes.....If I was in the market at this price range think id rather gamble on used hardware from Ebay. The 8th generation intel CPUs are just re-hashed versions of previous ones with no massive performance gains. They didn't move to 10nm until recent 11th gen.

Stay away if you expect them to last more than 1-2 years.

Awful engineering/QA - I have 2 of these, within 1.5 years both developed the same issue: one of each' hinges went rigid unable to open, causing the plastic frame to split open. According to manufacturer these are End of Life, so they don't support them or provide spare parts for them.

Other issues: screen rubs against the base when closing and gets scratched, some keys of the keyboard don't register properly.

Shame because otherwise they would be neat laptops, specs and value wise.
