Is the cooling any good ? I'm fed up with Dell and my XPS 15 9550 just died which ran terribly hot despite repasting and dotting heat sinks around the chips.

It is pretty good, yes. They make a feature of the angled second screen to provide extra cooling (that is definitely needed as compared to the earlier ux481 laptop that didn't have this)

"ZenBook Duo 14 uses the ErgoLift hinge mechanism and tilting ScreenPad Plus to increase overall cooling airflow by 49%."

Not to wish to denigrate your comment but I can do web browsing and YouTube videos on an i5 that is 7 generations older than this one with no problem. An 11th generation i5 and 16GB RAM is more than enough for the majority of things that we might want to do today on any laptop, (and not just web browsing and YouTube).

That said, if you are a gamer or want to do stuff with high end graphics then you should be looking at the UX582 (which has an nVidia 3070 built in). Or you could always buy this now and add a more powerful GPU later using this laptops Thunderbolt 4 port. (edited)

Let me put your mind at rest - I have had quite a few ASUS laptops: ux481, ux482, ux581 and ux582 (each an upgrade and usually bought new in a deal like this one or second-hand at a good price). I have never had any reason to contact ASUS as they have all just worked great. They also have a respectable showing in laptop Magazines survey of laptop manufacturers PC support (beating HP and Samsung)

(Interesting to note that the ASUS related "Razor" brand that made the laptop that was the inspiration for this model is at the top of their table for customer service!) (edited)

Unlikely unless it is a secondhand warehouse deal

love marketing "supercharged graphics" MX450..... guess asus team don't bother checking benchmark (passmark) even at time it was released there was hardly anything "super" in this gpu.

To be fair it's a nerfed 1650 around 3/4 of its power making it stronger than a 970 apparently , more than adequate for most non gamers.

You can pick up a 12 gen i7 with 17” touchscreen for less. It’s a lot of money for the bespoke extra screen, and reviews suggest there is a rather high failure rate on these laptops. There are people that will genuinely benefit from the extra screen within a small form, but certainly better options for a majority of people.

.. or to put it another way. You can have this for the same price as a 12th gen 17" Laptop :-) (edited)

Massively tempted, but I’ve heard ASUS customer support is awful.
