I can confirm the Volt upgrade does work. I took out Virgin's M500 package in February and as an existing o2 customer, was upgraded to 1gig and all of the corresponding o2 upgrades (travel zone, double data etc).

Also, there is so much on here about how bad the virgin broadband is but it seems to be just poor quality routers. I WFH so need a reliable connection so put mine straight in modem only mode, paired it with a TP-Link ER-605 Router and an existing TP-Link AC1750 WAP and have had rock solid broadband and Wi-Fi.

I use freshping to ping my NAS every minute and have seen no downtime since the brief outage when I was upgraded to 1gig.

Tell them you are leaving if they don't match your existing price. They probably won't but you should get a call, after you have given notice, from their retentions team who are able to offer the deals. Worse case, you can cancel the cancellation if the call doesn't come. (edited)

As others have said go through usual options to cancel, tell them what you want to stay. They will likely tell you that’s not possible / new customer offer only so give your notice to cancel your contract.

A few days later someone will call and offer you much better deals.

I’ve literally done the same. They offered me 100mb for £26 as the best offer I’ll get. Cancelled and they called back to offer 200mb for £20 plus got upgraded to next tier as now also have O2 sim.

    When asked about this with virgin they say to do this;

That's right, once your service with us get activated, just contact O2 to connect your O2 account to your Virgin account, cool?

    — I checked this with o2, you simply just go to my o2 and connect the accounts that way. Ensure both addresses match for double data and speed increase including up to 3 pods for no extra cost.

    Good deal better! (edited)

So I pay 24.50 for 500mb and I called them up as I am with o2 and the virgin media is under my mum's name. They said from the 12th April (supposed to be 4th) anyone with virgin in the house can get there o2 data boosted and speed! So I'm getting 1gb for 24.50! They confirmed this over the phone, they might temporarily put you on 600 mb if they don't have the router but they're in stock.

They have a good phillipino team now who just throw discount at you! It's great, before I couldn't get any discount worth having and now I'm enjoying my rate! (edited)

They are shifty that's for sure. Rang to cancel. Turned down 2 phone calls and then on the third they offered 350 for £26 a month
    getting roughly 385 meg

Phoned to get a new deal a couple of weeks ago as wasn't happy with another price rise, was on 350Mb + phone line for £41.50, didn't bother with all the back and forth, just told them I wanted a better deal or I'm off, got offered Gig1 + Phone line + 10GB O2 SIM for £49pm for 18 months, switched my missus to the O2 SIM as her current bill was £10, so nearly triple speed upgrade for £2.50 a month less and that's not taking in to account the price rise... no brainer! Getting 8-9ms ping ~920Mb / 52Mb, but my connection here has always been rock sold.

And it will shoot back up, my only regret is I tolerated these peoples service in my home for so long. Never again, constantly playing cat and mouse, listening to their lies and suffering a poor service.

Final offer from the retention team is £55 for 500meg and MaxIt Tv for 18 months. I should add that I benefit from Volt hence 500meg provided.

The bit about doubling the speed needs to be clarified before a deal like this is posted, doesn't make sense to lure people in and it then turns out the speed upgrade isn't possible.

Can vouch for this. I'm the same. Was on M350 speed Broadband and when I got my £10 a month o2 sim I was boosted up to M500! Got double sim data to 40gb and 6 months Disney plus free! I also bought an Asus gaming modem ASUS RT-AX58U WIFI 6 and put the (shockingly bad) virgin router into modem mode and now get constant speeds exceeding my limit of 550mb download and around 35mb upload in WiFi upstairs! Paying 34 a month for this but will expect a price rise soon as coming up to our 1 year

I gave my 30 days notice and signed up in my wife's name (I didn't get a call back from the retentions team).

Choose self install and when your old service gets disconnected just hook up the new router, took about 30 minutes to be back up and running. (edited)

It has been in my case in the past (haven't tried with your wife but have been lucky with my own husband )
Obviously bear in mind that credit checks etc will apply. You may also get some push back about them having an existing line already and whether it is fraudulent, but with the last one they offered me double speed, 2 years without a price increase, etc, for 50p more (although I was leaving because of the price hike)
  31. samhenderson2013's avatar

Been with Virgin for over 10 years

Been going through the usual dance with them on contract renewal yearly until now.

    Last deal I was on

    350 mb broadband
    TV maxit
    3 tivo boxes
    Landline with weekend calls

    For £46.50

This time when negotiating they refused to offer anything near the price

So cancelled and now tv and broadband gone as no call back with a good offer was made.

Only Landline remaining so have cancelled that too

Atm got a 5g router with Vodafone sim as a temporary solution until I find something else more permanent (edited)
