Very much disagree with that statement, more money doesn’t always mean better whisky
If you ever want to put that opinion to the test there’s what appears to be a tasting club in my local park.
Several guys stick a few bottles in paper bags and pass them around to decide which is best. They’re really dedicated, never miss a day. And spend hours laying on the benches deep in thought before declaring the winner (edited)
I was comparing it to suntory toki, obviously not yamazaki or even chita
I very much doubt your local winos are drinking anything that could be described as "remarkable" but perhaps they are and perhaps why they're homeless, once you get into the upper echelons it becomes a very expensive hobby!
I disagree, £35 for a bottle of Ledaig, fantastic whisky.
"Tenjaku Whisky, one of the freshest faces in the popular Japanese whisky scene, recently announced a new creation to go along with their signature blend: Tenjaku Pure Malt.
A blend of 100% aged malt whiskies, Tenjaku Pure Malt goes through a double copper pot distillation process under the watchful eye of distiller Kenji Watanabe, before it is aged in ex-bourbon barrels for six years. According information from the brand, the whisky carries “a slightly nutty taste with hints of green apples and herbs, finishing with a subtly smoky vanilla and woody tone.”
Ditto very unimpressed. Taste like a work in progress and not ready yet but I've never tested this one.
Suntory what? They have a huge range of whiskies.
Anyone know if this one is 100% Japanese or contains imported Scotch like many cheap "Japanese" whiskies do?
Look at the price point and I think you'll be able to answer your own question with whisky you really do get what you pay for
Agree, I did the same and wasn't overly impressed.
Very true.
We'll have to agree to disagree then. Having tried bottles at various price points the difference is remarkable when you to those higher levels, it really is night and day
in your option - taste is all subjective right.
also to my point i would suggest to most they would enjoy an 18 year old macallan more .... just not sure if most could justify the £300 price tag.
I think I’d prefer a £30 - £50 integrity malt over most MacAllan, regardless of its price tag.
Different strokes for different folks, until you've tried them you'll never know, but having been fortunate enough myself to have tried a few, as I said earlier, you get what you pay for
I got the white label version at Christmas from Costco, its still sitting there, it very light, subtle flavours. But if i was after a light whisky an light irish whisky is prob better. I would rather still drink a nice light whisky like glenfiddich, 12 - which is £27 in Costco I believe, much better
With a bit of research £30 - £50 will get you an excellent whisky, even if you don’t particularly like it. More power to you if dropping £300 on a bottle you don’t like is a non-issue, but most folks on a deals website are unlikely to be in that boat.
