Just remember 4 sided ambilight if wall mounting, 3 sided ambilight on a TV Unit.
Slight niggles about the 8204: the remote can be slightly laggy sometimes - not a big issue. The Amazon prime TV app sometimes crashes and has to be "force stopped" to fic it, but again, not a massive issue. As this is obviously an updated set these may not even apply to the 8536.
Yes it does. It's written on the side of the box.
Brill tv must have at this crazy cheap price for a 65 inch
The ambilight tvs have built in ability to link with hue lights. You can go through the TV menu and link your hue bridge. Really amazing when it's set up. I have the ceiling light and 2 hue wall spots behind the sofa, turns the whole room into an extension of the ambilight.
Possibly a one off? Had many and never failed.
Same here (edited)
Agreed
I don’t think I could buy a TV without ambilight now.
techweekmag.com/rev…ew/
It does have direct-lit lighting but its unimpressive which is probably why most think its edge-lit. This will seriously hurt HDR content but if HDR doesn't bother you too much this is a steal. (edited)
That review is for the 70" version my understanding is from reading lots of info is the 65" versions comes with an IPS panel not a MVA panel. This could make a difference to some people.
"TV tech has moved on quite a bit, and the advent of HDR means its even more important now to shop for a TV using a VA panel rather than an IPS ones.
TVs using IPS panels, even those with local dimming generally are very poor compared to the competition and don't really have a place in the market once you shop above mid range TVs. To answer your question though only LG make FALD TVs using IPS panels.
The main drawbacks in IPS tech (and why VA was invented) is the fact the panel leaks more light through from behind naturally. This is down to the way the panel is made and its pixel structure. Its the same picture structure that allows TVs that use IPS panels to naturally have better viewing angles. This doesn't just result in worse blacks, but worse contrast and screen uniformity too (such as the edge bleed you describe with your current TV).
But really TVs using IPS panels are fine for SDR use, and most people won't have a problem using one in the living room, even in dark movies and dark conditions. What really has contributed to their lack of popularity nowadays with enthusiasts is that they are just not very good when you use the TV for HDR, and thus have a backlight on full behind the TVs panel.
A quick look at peak brightness figures in tests shows their weakness. LGs latest lineup of Nano TVs with local dimming can't get very bright, and that is because they have to keep brightness lower in order to keep screen uniformity problems minimal when using HDR. The sadly do not compare nowadays to LCD TVs from Samsung and LG. If they gave up using their own IPS panel tech and instead bought VA panels like other manufacturers do, then they would have much better LCD TVs.
Like many manufactures, though, they really focus the high end on OLED now.
As for Panasonic, they stopped making FALD TVs some time ago...in fact I own the last FALD TV they made in the DX902 (2016 model). It uses a VA panel. I think the last FALD sets they made with IPS panels were a year or two before that. They focus the high end on OLED now.
You may have already seen already, but I have a link in my signature, its also in my best buy guide in the opening post and its the first thing I personally think people need to consider before purchasing a TV." (edited)
Is that tv directly above a radiator?
Is so, you've just halved it's lifespan.
Not to worry, we'll not be able to afford putting the heating on shortly.
It does according to Philips site. Although with it being a 60hz panel it won't add much other than supporting eARC etc.
That's probably the prime app then. Happens on my Sony Android TV quite regularly and it's the only one I have to force close.
are we saying that this wouldnt be a good choice - or are we taking an avforum purist utopian requirements list
looking for a cheapish tv for a summerhouse for a mixed economy as per the above - basic tv and some ps5 action
thanks in advance
I have had my fair amount of issues with a Phillips a few years ago as well. It came to a point where the TV would turn on by itself in the middle of the night or just flash live TV for a few seconds while I was streaming something on YouTube or Netflix. And it all started a couple of months after the warranty period.
Since this is an Android one I would expect it to have a more reliable system.
Don't do gaming. If it has Earc that would be a bonus. I have a few HUE lights in the living room. Would the Ambiance be able to sync with them ?
Had I not just bought a TV I would have grabbed this 100% (edited)
Worth every penny and more imo.
This is a stonking price.
I was in the same boat but got the tape measure out and it just squeezed in where the 58" was going to go. (edited)
If you want a basic tv thats going to display the ps5 at half its capable framerate then this is the tv for you
I've looked at some sites that say it has HDMI 2.1, but others make no mention of it. On the Philips site it mentions it, and Richer Sounds mention this within the description, however other reviews say that it isn't included. Very confused, and would be really helpful to know, as keen to buy this
Currys do a 4-sided ambilight tv, the 9006 model
Very very good picture and blacks. Nice screen. The android that’s in it is utter rubbish, as any i suppose. It freezes, lags etc. Overall 7/10 android & it’s very thick (edited)
Do you have 4 sided wall mounted? That's what I'm looking for but thinking I'd need a sound bar so wonder how that affects the bottom ambilight when mounted below TV and effectively end up 3 sided anyway
