How economical are these - I've noticed they've become very popular …How economical are these - I've noticed they've become very popular recently and thinking of taking a punt

The concensus seems to be that for electricity consumption they beat ovens per-dish hands down. Not sure I've ever seen a hob comparison, though.

They're not the panacea some claim, and I was cynical at first, but have found them very good.
Just another/different style of pan/oven in many ways. There's a learning curve to using them properly, but once a few things are figured out (eg. it's just a small oven with intense air circulation.) then the results can be excellent/clean/relatively fast.
Chips can be almost as good as ones from a pan, but there is a method to get them right. Chops, steaks etc. can be very very good, but you need to monitor their temperature carefully as the thing cooks aggressively. Etc etc.

I initially dithered for a long while, but when the last one died I bought another within 2 days, which perhaps says something.

Bought one of these on the back of the many recommendations that have been on HUKD whenever this is posted. Very happy with it. I bought it in store. Bargain

A bit of stale bread under the basket works wonders, I've found.

Bought last week for a couple of quid more, as store stock indeed patchy, to replace another Gourmia that died.
Very good machine, and big enough to take a whole chicken.
Pretty much a bargain anywhere near £50. Not rubbish. (edited)

Super cheap to run compared to an oven. Warm up time is minimal and cooking time is cut in half.

do costco have a store stock checker?
    davecom26's avatar
Don’t think so. Just phone your local/nearest store. Think they could check other stores stock for you too if they are out

I think that non-members can purchase items online on the Costco website - this is listed as £51.99 (incl VAT & delivery), which seems a bargain.

Does anyone know whether this is a fact - ie that items can be bought on their website, without a membership card (as long as the customer pays for the delivery? (edited)
    tawse57's avatar
No, you have to have an online membership. £15.

The bigger they are it seems like the air circulation is better. Shaking stuff about often important too, and bigger ones make that more efficient.

I think Costco is fantastic. But I like to buy in bulk, so I only have to a proper food run once a month or less. It's sometimes not as cheap as other places, but the quality has always been fantastic. They also have a very reasonable returns policy (though I've been lucky enough not to have to use it). I don't have this air fryer, but if you think you might have use for Costco for your normal shopping needs, I'd say it's worth a punt.

I’ve got this air fryer. It’s good and cooks food super quickly. My only issue is it’s not as convenient as the oven when cooking multiple things at the same time

Halogen ovens have more heat loss via the glass I would think, but cooking times are similar.

Not sure how the Gourmia compares to the tower equivalent that looks very similar, sold in the likes of Lidl. We have the tower one - the heat cycling and timer just failed, so it runs full heat indefinitely. Splashed out on the Ninja Foodie grill/air fryer/oven at about £150 at Costco last week to replace it - massively better taste die to more even cooking.

Like the ladies say bigger is better Seriously though I have a 5.5l from another brand and that’s bigger enough for me. Look at it this way it’s better to have a bit extra capacity than to get a oven that’s too small and not have enough room. also for the price you can’t go wrong.

Kitchen gadget most will wonder why they didn't buy earlier, I found we used it more and more as time went by, oven only switched on when when the air fryer is too small.

yeah thats the thing, it would only be for this purchase.. unless anything else sparks my interest.. which i doubt
from what i can find, with the membership fee added it seems to be around the same price as Amazon/Ebay have them

I bought the previous model Feb last year generally pleased but the non stick coating on the crisper tray is poor quality / thin and degrades quickly. Will phone my local branch to see if they have these and take it back.
