For anyone interested, hotel is a 2 min walk to seafront, cinema, geo Park and main shopping area. The train station is a 5 min walk, no 12 bus travels to Brixham and then over to Newton Abbot, £5 for all day torbay dayrider ticket on Stagecoach which includes open deck bus (edited)

Better off crossing the river to Dartmouth. Its absolutely beautiful there and the views are breathtaking.

Absolute nonsense. I live in Paignton and there's no more drug use than any other busy town.

Go to Dartmouth and be prepared to spend a lot more money for the same return that's for sure.

Two different markets completely. Your average Joe looking at £99 deals in Paignton and Torquay will rarely be doing a toss up between there and Dartmouth or Salcombe that's for sure.

What you've suggested is like telling people to not bother with Pizza Hut and go to Italy instead.

    PlanetGanet30/05/2022 10:20

That's because it's right on the coast. Nothing to do with the park itself.

Exactly. Gulls swoop in around the town centre and even at Paignton Zoo. (edited)

I saw less drug taking in Exeter and London compared to Paignton and Torbay. There's absolutely some nice areas but it really isn't what it once was. Things do get a bit better in the summer when there's more tourists around though, but then you get some horrific traffic around the bottlenecks in the area (Broadsands when going to and from Brixham, and Preston when going to/from Torquay). Its a shame, I've got really good memories growing up there but times change. I'm sure some people would enjoy going there. Torquay Harbourside and Brixham Harborside isn't too bad, but i'd avoid Paignton personally.

    Incorrect, and here's why...

Statistically, Exeter has a drug problem higher than the Devon average whilst Paignton has a drug problem lower than the Devon average.

Torquay a crime rate (105 per 1000) that is nearly double that of Paignton (61 per 1000 . Drug use too is higher than Paignton and higher than the Devon average.

London, specifically Camden and Tower Hamlets are two areas in the 10 worst areas of the country for drug use.

In fact, Paignton is statistically the safest major town in Devon. Exeter is the most dangerous area in Devon.

Same old shops everywhere ( sports direct, Gregg's, McDonald's, charity shops etc). The coast ain't that great in Paington, but does get better for sight seeing in Torquay. But if you are going for sightseeing of nature then you are in the wrong place. As I said before best way would be to cross the river in to Dartmouth or Brixham is very nice. Exeter maybe have a higher crime rate, but their shopping centre is 100 times better than Paington. Also Torquay got a new Cineworld (not that it's any different to any other one. I live in a lovely home facing the coast in a very sought after area in a village next to Dartmouth. Anytime anyone comes from Torquay or Paington to see me they are always like we would love to live here. It's so quiet and beautiful

So you're in Strete, Stoke Fleming or Slapton I'd guess. If anyone wants to Google the property prices in these places then feel free, and see how silly it is to compare these villages to seaside towns like Paignton.

Again, people doing a night or two in Paignton are not the same market as South Hams frequenters.

Imagine comparing the shopping of a city to that of a seaside town. Wow. Also, Torquay didn't get a Cineworld, they got a Merlin cinema, much smaller than the Vue on Paignton seafront.

Coast in Paignton is lovely. A long walk from Paignton Harbour to Preston Sands. Great views from Roundham. Numberous beaches all along Preston, Paignton and Goodrington with parking for all. (edited)

Looks a good hotel and a good deal but I fundamentally disagree with the Travelzoo business model where you have to pay the full amount before you even know if the dates you want are available and if they aren't you then have to go through the fiddly and messy business of getting a refund. On that basis, neither cold nor hot.

May be referring to a young man that took his own life there in 2019.

Victoria Park is about a 5 min walk away from this hotel. I wouldn't advise going through there after dark, absolutely fine during the day though.

I wouldn't book anything that far ahead on a non-refundable rate either.
Yes, the Travelzoo voucher is refundable for up to 14 days after purchase, but once you've redeemed the voucher and booked the hotel, you're at the mercy of the hotel's own cancellation policy which l suspect is non-amendable and non-refundable.

Hotel Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy: Once you’ve made your reservation, you cannot change your travel dates with the hotel. If you cancel or change your booking in violation of the hotel's cancellation policy, you may be subject to additional fees or voucher forfeiture. (edited)

Nope, just my personal opinion. You're the one getting agitated and refusing to accept any kind of criticism of the area, meanwhile i've even suggested things that you can do in the area even though I don't like it? Please don't take criticism of the area personally, some people will like it, some people won't. People have different tastes and that is ok. This is why there's a discussion forum.

It is, but even Dartmouth has its run down areas, areas around Townstal Road for instance.

If you think Dartmouth is full of snobs, try Salcombe for size. Choc full of million pound second homes for the rich. Town is a ghost town most of the year. Again though, Salcombe also has plenty of working class and people who rely on benefits for the main source of income. Nothing wrong with that, that's part of what makes society diverse and interesting.

Young people are priced out of buying in so many areas and the South Hams is awful for it. Even in Paignton I know of people who offered £8k over asking for an averagely priced house and were outbid. Housing market is crazy. Rental market is worse because of long term lets being locked out in favour of AirBnb gouging.
