About this deal
This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:
Octopus Energy is handing out free electric blankets to some of its 3.1million customers to help keep them warm this winter.
The blankets will be handed out to those in the most financial need.
And electric blankets can be a cheaper way of keeping warm instead of relying on central heating.
From Monday, October 10, customers will soon be able to fill in an online form to apply for an electric blanket.
Octopus Energy is offering customers 10,000 electric blankets - 20% more than the supplier originally offered in a similar scheme last year.
The supplier said that the blankets will only be available to people who will benefit from them most.
This is likely to include elderly people, or those with specific medical conditions which make them immobile, very unwell, or feel cold.

sorted byDon't fancy literally burning money (ie. turning the heating on)?
Hop in bed and watch telly there of an evening.
I don't see that as something shameful - it's cosy and costs pennies to run.
Love it! (edited)
1) Complaining that it's Octopus using this as a sneaky way to get extra profits - the blankets cost £30-£50 in the shops, and about 3p/4p an hour to run. Also, anyone who actually has an electric blanket now knows that they can be used instead of central heating at night, or sometimes in the day too, therefore saving you money overall.
2) People confusing companies like Octopus, who supply the energy, with companies like Shell who generate it - I thought people figured it out months ago - it's not Octopus making massive profits right now, it's Shell etc.
3) People who think the threat of blackouts is fearmongering / part of a conspiracy - I saw someone here comment that they want to make people think that they'll be blackouts, so they use less themselves. I don't think this makes sense given that the Government has been criticised for scrapping plans to encourage people to use less, As even the Telegraph reported.
Think some people need to get a grip. It's a crap situation, the Gov are getting some things wrong, there's a lot of different short-term and long-term factors at play, and a lot needs changing. That's all true, and there's valid debate to be had.
To look at all of the above and turn it into "I'm mad that a company is going to give away 10,000 electric blankets to poor people" is ridiculous. £30 each, and Octopus will buy them wholesale so probably all in all this'll cost them about £2m/£3m max, for something that could genuinely warm a few people up - it's pretty cost effective.
And finally - if you haven't already and have the money - buy an electric blanket for yourself. They are really, really good, and relatively cheap to run. I keep one in bed to warm it up before I go to sleep, and I use one when I'm working from home sometimes - it means I can have the heating on much less and they cost pennies an hour to run. It might sound ridiculous, or that I'm being paid to promote this - but they are genuinely a game changer.
"As one of the largest investors in renewable energy in Europe, we manage more than 310 large-scale green energy projects spanning 10 countries and 8 technologies. These have a combined capacity of 3.2GW, enough energy to power 2 million homes every year! And we’re building more by the minute."
Shell and octopus are both generators and suppliers.
Voted hot (edited)
We understand its the organisations who actually abstract the gas/oil who've grossly increased costs, however, the energy suppliers are pulling in record breaking profits off the back of this. Every time the price of gas increases, they make more on their margins.
Offering us an electric blanket, whilst screwing us over at the same time, is like a slap in the face.
I'm an Octopus Energy customer and while they're not as greedy as the likes of British Gas, their still exploiting us like the rest of them! (edited)
For instance, Ovo offer this which includes electric throws etc.
All the large energy companies have to offer things like free insulation, discounted boilers etc as part of their licence conditions - if they don't, they get fined
The irony of a “Customer Support Package” it’s like a warranty we now all pay for for the most vulnerable ontop of all these suppliers/wholesalers & National Grid Public Limited Company.
How hard can it be to legislate that until the market settles that every part of the chain is run as a Co-op whilst the Gov is funding profits to them to keep prices lower for us all.
Like France effectively has done by nationalising EDF - whilst EDF continued to make profits on EDF U.K. (Abellio Trains UK etc etc).. to send back to France to offset EDF losses.
But here it is again
Unless you want to produce your own (static) electricity though keep the sheets/pillows 100% cotton. (edited)
I did vote hot btw. (edited)
Should make them the ‘topper‘ blankets so people can use them on bed and anywhere there’s a socket

This is the link. The one above takes you to their debt advice.
Nice to know that people have made this post super hot. its a shame the cheap electric blanket wont.
\its also made in China in a sweatshop but i see nobody cares about that. (edited)
So many things wrong with your comment but I'll make my reply concise to help you understand:
1. This website isn't run by the goverment, so the 'fascists' who are 'taking your freedom of speech' have nothing to do with this website and vice-versa.
2. The blankets provided certainly are't cheap and have 4.5+/5 reviews across the board.
3. I'd really like to know where you're getting your info from about these being produced in a sweatshop. All supply chains oh both websites are accredited by and comply with the Modern Slavery act.
Please do your research before spouting nonesense.
Sleep with a beanie on if you can’t keep the room temp warm, make sure there is no tassels etc that could injure you though or worse, ie don’t sleep with one that has ties on it to make it stay on, dangerous.
Finally you know, regardless of income bracket we are all going to suffer to one degree or another even if that is the HUKD elites have less excess disposable income for their champers, luxuries or Harrods Xmas shop (even they will have to wait until the new financial year to get their bumper Energy companies dividends post winter).
Whether you are a mortgage owner (you don’t own the house yet pet!) who’s just inflated upto 5/6% interest I budgeted unexpectedly or a working tax creditor/Universal Creditor or really financially poor DWP sick/disabled/pensioner one thing to be is proactive about your mental health and how this is all affecting you as a person/family, ie now is not (or ever) the time to have that stiff ‘British’ upper lip because least face it that night permanently disfigure you in this cold energy time (haha) and more importantly why make yourself suffer?
So regardless of class or income if you are struggling financially or mentally or both ALWAYS speak up, ask help, ask advice on any appropriate HUKD thread, OK!
Be safe y’all and make sure all those vulnerable neighbours are safe too, even if you despise them! I’m sure you don’t want them taken out dead in the street because of this energy crisis.
But if very cold of course covering your head or anywhere else usually uncovered will help.
“Hi Name,
Hope this finds you well.
Please be advised that we don't offer free blankets, however we do offer the warm home discount which applications will open in November.
The Warm Home Discount scheme is open for 2022 to 2023. We’ll provide eligible households with £150 credit towards their energy bills for the winter. The scheme has changed for 2022,
Depending on where you live in the UK.”
What a crock

I get people thinking this is a stupid idea but it’s a hell of a lot better than I’ve seen any other company do towards helping customers. The sooner I can get away from Eon the better.
Also much, much cheaper to run than than heating. My partner and I survived an entire winter without turning on heating using one of these .
