Yamazaki Distillers Reserve Whisky

This is off their core range so usually their cheapest. Nice easy drinker and worth trying if you want to try Japanese whisky.

I was in a whisky shop in Chester yesterday and they had this on offer £65 so did a tasting. Was nice but in my opinion not a £50+ any day of the week.
Quick google search and it’s half price at Waitrose £36 down from £72.

None at store in Chester but have 2 arriving from online today.

£65+ online (Master of Malt £66.95)

Cost me £3 delivery for my area.

***Just found out it’s a minimum £40 spend on delivery orders so add a loaf of bread…

You might be able to do click and collect***

Think my first motorbike was a Yamazaki.

Yamazaki is also a great word to use if you're wanting to prictice having a Geordie accent.
    Averspades's avatar
As a Geordie I can confirm this. In English it means 'that's a lovely suit Bob, which tailor did you purchase it from,

I ordered two for collection at the Stirling store, got an email four hours before collection to say they'd substituted my items for.......wait for it....... Togouchi Blended Whisky.... But it's ok they said... They've charged me the lower price, but actually they've charged me £89 instead of the original £72 and it takes 7 days for a refund. What a joke. First time I've ever used Waitrose and let it be said I won't be doing so again.

Doesn't add to checkout. ( Let's me add now and checkout ) (edited)

Sorry Shinoke I’m not sure, best bet would be to phone ahead to save the wild goose chase. I was able to phone my local store (Chester) and got through straight away. The lady said No but I wasn’t convinced, checked in person and she was right! Hope that helps

Check your orders people My order has just Doubled. They are charging £75 for the bottle. (edited)

What a useless response from their customer care team

I'm sorry to learn that you experienced changing price of the product. I understand that you would like to confirm why this happen. I also imagine how disappointing it is.

Our customers will be charged the in-store prices on the day of delivery or collection and this is when payment is taken. This could be different from the price quoted when you place your order.

Have a nice day and my apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

Looks like items being returned and never shopping at Waitrose again after all, so much for being a premium supermarket - such a thing doesn't exist I suppose

Now that's a bargain ! ,You need to spend £40 to checkout (edited)

Remember the days of age statement Japanese whisky for peanuts…. I picked up several bottles of Hibiki 12 Year at Tesco for £40 a time about 6 years ago.. same bottle is several hundred quid now! :-/
    whisky_lover's avatar
Those 50cl bottles, right? I did the same and cleared the shelves of few Tesco stores

I’m surprised they won’t honour the deal, really bad that. When I found the deal it was showing on google as a sale £72 down to £36.
Shows at £75 out of stock now

Update: DO NOT REFUSE OR CANCEL, Take the item and get them to honour the original price.

Ordered 2 bottles at £72 for both, was charged £150 today when I came to collect, I explained there’s a price discrepancy and they honoured the original price of £36 each, they just explained it’s a national error on the website and shouldn’t have been that price but we’ll honour it today but now it’s back to £75 on the shelves

Yeah Its pretty bad from Waitrose they defo knew what they was doing and shouldn't have changed the price on the day. I am just waiting on a reply from them now and a refund with the delivery charge back hopefully.

The click and collect desk in store weren’t able to refund the difference and so patched me through to customer service. After 30 mins on the line trying to find an answer from ‘the team in charge’ I told the assistant I couldn’t wait in store any longer and would take two bottles home and they’d have to call/email me with an update.

I won’t open either of the two bottles until the difference has been refunded back onto my card and if it’s not then I’ll return for full refund.

Having said that the original email clearly states:

“Payment will be taken on day of collection. Totals are estimates to allow for substitutions, weighted lines and promotional changes. Discounts are valid at the time the order is placed. If offers expire you will not get the discount. For refunds on expired offer items, please return them at the point of collection.”

The change in price here isn’t the result of a substitute product, a difference in weight/quantity or a promotional offer expiring so if Waitrose are adamant they will charge me full price then I’d like to know on what grounds they feel they are eligible to do so given that none of the above scenarios are applicable here.
    mark9915's avatar
Normally their customer service is great but a 30 min wait without achieving anything is pretty shocking. Good luck
  12. thoseion's avatar
Nice one! I had a bottle of this a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but found it very difficult to find anymore recently without more than double this price.

I even visited the Yamasaki Distillery in Japan in 2019 and they didn’t have any.

    Bargain. Two ordered.

Don’t cancel it, get the item and on collection if you’re collecting in store talk to them and request they honour the original price, I did and I got both my bottles, honoured at £36 each
  14. Hadouken's avatar
Customer service told me that it was a promotion that expired and that I am to pay the full price or refuse.

Very unhelpful. Would be in their favour to honour their mistake, especially if payment had been agreed at time of purchase.

That line “Discounts are valid at the time the order is placed.” Should stand?
It’s immediately contradicted by the following line:
“If offers expire, you will not get the discount.”
  15. Manya1983's avatar
I called up customer service to follow up on any resolution. Apparently they’ve informed the store that I collected the order from to refund me the difference.

Will try and claim the refund tomorrow.
    Manya1983's avatar
Got £78 refunded today for being charged £150 instead of £72.

    Took me longe

Got £78 refunded today for being charged £150 instead of £72 for two bottles.

Took me longer than expected as I took some time off work so wasn’t able to visit the store I picked up from. In the end it was customer service on the phone called from in store that issued the refund anyways.

    Happy with the result.

Placed order for online delivery at weekend and this morning card debited minus whisky. It beggars belief that Waitrose don't ring fence their online stock at source when online orders are placed. I know they're a grocer and not a pure retailer but most people want certainty when they order high value items they've at least a fighting chance of seeing a bottle arrive. Just goes to show how Waitrose have lost their way as belts tighten
    mark9915's avatar
Not ring fencing seems to be standard practise for lots of store now, I’m looking at you Wickes, but didn’t they provide a substitution for your bottle(s) because if they didn’t that would suggest it wasn’t out of stock (edited)
  17. spiderman007's avatar
Same as everyone else shocking customer service from waitrose. Even though I choose no substitute they sent me alternative Scottish blended whiskey and charged extra for it.
They've agreed refund of the whiskey but not the £3 del charge.

Best to do click and collect or wait for delivery?

Probably which ever is quicker or most convenient. I got delivery less than 24hr after purchase and it’s still been available online since

Bought the aldi Japanese whisky a while back, was blended Scottish Malts, Japan doesn't do better whisky than Scotland, buy British.

    British? You mean Scottish?
  31. swafe's avatar
    Finally managed to find one.

Question to anyone who knows waitrose click and collect. Do I have to pick up in the hour time slot or is that just the arrival time and I can turn up after?

I'm assuming the latter but just want to check
  32. dave_stuf67's avatar
The distillers reserve is just a blend and sold in corner shops in Japan. Think Bells or Teachers. Not worth the price.
    saabfan's avatar
This is not a blend, it's a single malt.
  33. jinkssick's avatar
I get jealous of whisky connoisseurs, i like rums but the taste of whiskey always like im drinking bleach whenever I try some.
  34. unikartal's avatar
Had an early morning delivery for 6 bottles. Got them and noticed later from the email that they charged 75£ for bottle. For online they charge the delivery day price but it doesn’t sound fair to increase the charge to 450£ from 216£, will return all to the store after complaining (edited)
    Jonathan_Brooks's avatar
I was just charged £150 for my two bottles on click and collect, but I calmly spoke with them and they happily honoured the original price so I’m getting a £78 refund, not ideal but got it for the price nonetheless

Does anyone know what happens with click and collect? I've already paid £72 for two, will they charge me again or will I be in the clear if they arrive? Booked for Tuesday
    Benneh's avatar
Theyll charge you the full amount... they just did that to me. Had to call and get a refund.
  37. Manya1983's avatar
Let’s see what happens/what I get when I go to pick up at 6pm this evening
    Jonathan_Brooks's avatar
Tell them you e noticed a price difference and that you’d like them to honour the original price you were willing to pay when you ordered it, that’s what I said and I just picked up 2 bottles and am being refunded the difference

Just been charged £75 a bottle for my click and collect later today. Offer is now expired even though we all ordered yesterday when the deal was on.
    Jonathan_Brooks's avatar
As I’m saying to everyone else, my click and collect charged me £150 for two bottles on the day of clock and collect, today, but I asked them to honour the original price on my first email and they did (edited)
  39. ariecol's avatar
Mine got cancelled Christmas won't be the same now lol
    Jonathan_Brooks's avatar
Cancelled by them or by you? My click and collect they charged me £75 per bottle but I spoke to them in store and they honoured the price of £36 they stated it was the fault of the website and not the customer
  40. SunkissedTraveller's avatar
Just refused delivery, asked for an invoice but they don't have one so told them to return it as checking my email this morning shows £75.
    Jonathan_Brooks's avatar
Ah that’s a shame, as you’ll see I’m trying to message everyone to not cancel as I picked up my click and collect order, my bank has been charged £150 for 2 bottles, but I spoke with customer service and they were able to honour the original price so I’m getting £78 refunded and keeping both bottles
