Just came back from Dubai, you won't regret it. Makes this country looks 3rd world.
Amazing police, safe, good prices for food, nice people, friendly, civil. Amazing buildings, good weather in March, global village will be open (90 countries stalls), fun tours, beautiful malls. Drink is served in many places now too.

Looking for jobs to relocate in my current company as they have a HQ there, that's how much I enjoyed it. (edited)

Going on holiday in Dubai and working there are 2 massively different things, yes maybe tax free but your rent and outgoings will be much higher if you want a decent place to stay... Prices are not that cheap, again depending on if you live in old or new Dubai? Need to use a car/public transport to just go to the shops as you can't walk anywhere due to massive highways and roads, plus the heat is unbearable day and night for nearly 8 months of the year and everyone stays indoors. Oh! also no free health care so need insurance...I could go on but you have to try it for yourself if you are keen...I did it for 2 years and couldn't wait to get back...

We had been going to Dubai quite a lot until the last trip. I hate to say but the Russian image is not far wrong from what I saw. Dubai being one of the few places Russians can travel to and move their money to means the place is being inundated - unfortunately every single Russian I came across either in hotel or out in the city were pretty awful

Unless you’re travelling for business or this is top end of budget I’d question why anyone would go to Dubai and stay at such a hotel when there are better hotels to have a more enjoyable experience?

There will always be haters, and for humanitarian reasons, i can understand why.

But it really is a great place for a 6 night holiday.

    I would defo recommend:
    - Burj Khalifa
    - Dubai Mall (where the Burj is based)
    - Atlantis on the Palms
    - Dubai Old Town and souks
    - Dubai Marina and speed boat tour
    - Desert driving/quad biking
    - also, a lot of hotels do unlimited brunch and beach access for a fixed price.

There's also a couple of theme parks are pretty decent. Obviously not Disney standard, but a lot better than the theme parks in the UK. And they're dead in the summer. Can literally come off a ride and get right back on. (edited)

Nice deal shame it is during Ramadan and everything is pretty locked down or behind curtains during the fasting times. Google Ramadan Dubai mall food court 2022 for pictures to see how derelict it looks (edited)

This seems like a good deal on paper, but if (eg) you lived within an hour of Manchester, you could easily drive to and from the Trafford Centre each day, for six days, and have a similarly enriching experience.

Have you been The Trafford Centre lately? Absolute dump, loads of junk shops and vacant premises. Gone well down hill. Anyway you could fit The Trafford Centre in the Dubai Mall 10 x times! It doesn’t compare at all.

Good deal but if you want a better experience fly Emirates for extra luggage, though they have change the seats class system recently and now have Premium Economy. Emirates Economy seats used to have 34 inches of pitch space but this might have changed.

The hotel is in the middle of where there isn't "much" to do but it is right on the metro line which is handy and cheaper. Love Emirates and Dubai.

Thank you op...... Is London the cheapest place to fly to Dubai or Abu Dhabi? We are looking to visit friends at the end of march / start of april but finding it hard to find the best flights

Depends where you live and where you want to stay whilst in Dubai. If you want to stay Marina or JBR or Palm then will take you only about 20 mins longer airport transfer from Abu Dhabi so you you can look at Etihad flights as well as Emirates and choose best flight time and price to suit. If you want to stay Downtown end then beat flying into Dubai. I’d personally stick with direct flights with Etihad or Emirates. Any issues generally no messing about and both there apps are great. Worth it for piece of mind and less hassle. If you’re bothered about what is actually in the airport then Dubai airport has absolutely everything you can think of, Abu Dhabi is ok but on a much smaller scale. Hope this helps.

I'd personally rather go to Spain for a similar price, much more to do, nicer environment, no Ramadan to worry about and the weather is generally very good in mid March.

If its been 3 years thats a sign they are hoping you give up and forget about it

Contact your credit card company and start a chargeback or section 75 claim.

After years of resisting from going Dubai, I recently thought I would give it a try. After reading the comments on this thread I’ve changed my mind again. Everything that people say is good about this place is what puts me off! Going to a mall is not my idea of a holiday!

I’ve been 7 times but my partner is the same, interest whatsoever in going. I have however persuaded her to come next time on the proviso that if she doesn’t like it she doesn’t have to go again. There are so many myths out there but tbh there is so much more to do than just Malls etc. honestly. Stay JBR or Palm for one of the top Beach resorts they are outstanding and mix it up with Marina Walk etc. you can do as much or as little as you want with pretty much guaranteed sun all year round. I would however definitely recommend a visit to the Dubai Mall where you can see the Burj close up and the fantastic light show at the fountains in front. Now they’ve removed the 30% tax on food and beverages, prices for entertainment etc are much more in line with UK. Give it a go, I’d be really surprised if you don’t love it…..but obviously each to there own.

It’s always those who’ve never been to Dubai that are the first to jump on the bandwagon about it’s laws, human rights, lack of alcohol etc. We’ve been multiple times, and I’m well travelled and Dubai’s beaches are one of the best in the world. The hotels, resorts are unrivalled. The malls, yes the malls as a lot of people actually enjoy going shopping, are phenomenal. Take a trip and see for yourself. I’ve met so many tourists who were sceptical previously but would much prefer coming back here. (edited)

We used to dubai it evey year or two, whilst the place is good for a holiday and that, with the glean beaches and a fellow brit (and Russian) round every corner, there is no charm to that place anymore, Its now a kin to Vegas, but without the gambling, in comparison to 2001 when we first went.

If you're going that way, try neighbouring Oman for a more authentic Arabian cultural experience. (edited)
