    Your wording made it sound like someone could by some lithium AA rechargeable batteries then charge them in the controller using the "existing port"

    It's a good price but I'm thinking you can buy buy 4 x Ikea Ladda AA batteries and a charger for for around £12 total in store. Each battery is 2450 Mah so 4900 Mah total per charge. Seems a better idea maybe. (edited)

    Sorta. You need to mess around findinga Place/plug for the charger and swapping the batteries. These are super convenient. Probably the same charger as your phone (usbc) for £7, I'd be happier taking half capacity...

    Superior performance and NiMh don't go together, sorry.
    This will give you two charging ports on your controller.
    Better to get the lithium rechargeable batteries that fit in the existing compartment and last for ages, and charge using the existing port of the controller
