Just come off a cruise this morning on the Virtuosa with 14 UKHD members, a couple weren’t on the premium drinks package and survived, one person who joined our group was also not on a package but after spending £50 on the first evening he was offered a one off package of the most basic drinks package including draught Heineken beer and NON premium drinks, this cost him £200 on top off the £50 he had already spent! On board a premium drinks package is €63 Euro a day plus 15% service charge SO BE WARNED.

Having witnessed at first hand the HUKD members drinking this last week I can confirm that 80% of them must have been drinking the value of their weekly premium drinks package PER DAY! I have never ever seen so much alcohol consumed in a week in my life and I am so embarrassed to admit that I was caught up in this week long rave, 20 drinks a day was a light day, you could EASILY consume 15 drinks in the nightclub between say 1pm and 5am..

The group were diverse in age, sex, race, UK home location and lifestyle, great friendships were made and in socialising we found other HUKD members. I think all had the most fantastic time, the ship is stunning, the staff superb, the food ok with choices of where to eat, the restaurants can be a little slow, the buffet is like feeding time at a zoo but something for everyone, I found all the specialist restaurants magnificent although the Hola Mexican was heavy going and in the end had to ask that no more food was brought out, but if you like that kind of food I am sure you would love it.

It was an honour to have met such nice genuine kind people and a huge thank you to Rmcstar who posted it, I have no doubt everyone will enjoy the MSC Virtuosa, you can never be bored and if you do then there is something wrong with YOU and not the ship or MSC. Same goes for complaining, nobody can complain for what you pay, if you do you need to get a life and actually understand what it takes to run a ship like this, in my opinion it should be double the price at a minimum, I actually felt embarrassed at how little I paid to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful surroundings and amazing engineering. Everything is cheaper booked in advance, drinks must be done at time of booking to get the cheapest.

Just finished a week, on board spend £0.

We don't bother with internet (WiFi is free).

There is a chat in the app to keep in touch.
The app comes alive when on board will all the information you need like menu for the week.

For these trips you get quite a few hours arriving leaving port with EU roaming.

Lock your phone to land networks if you will get charged on the marine networks.
We have SIM that don't work if there will be charges(Lebara no credit) (edited)

In my experience no they don't open, purely a visual thing.

Just been through options and solo is £421 and when I add drinks package it goes up to £632! Not sure how they say it's £17pppn!
Or am I doing something wrong?
    getmore4less's avatar
It's from £17pppd, kids package is £69 before discounts that brings the pp down a lot.

Ahh missed it. This is what happens when you procrastinate a good deal dammit.

Until another comes up I did have a couple of questions for those who have been on this.

    1) Is there a luggage allowance? Also, do they do the same security screening as they do on flights for liquids etc?
    2) Is the wifi any good on the ship? Ill probably be working a few times so would need a decent connection.
    3) La Havre is about 20km from Paris which I would love to see. Does the ship offer tours/exercusions or transport when visiting or do you need to arrange it all yourself?

Thanks again. Cant believe I missed this. A balcany room was a steal at this price.

Keep an eye on the 27thMarch and 14thApril they may open up.

Start looking for next year they start these trips end of Oct on new ship Euribia some of the price look higher but the drinks package is lower so it makes it not too bad.

Nov dates are around £550pp with drinks the cheapest they went this year was £470pp.
Feb are at £525 which is similar to this year before those last min discounts kicked in.
(Check the solo I only keep the 2pax rates in my head) (edited)

Great find! Wish there were more cheap solo holiday posts on here. How do you search for solo only cruises on Seascanner, is it possible? (edited)

Apparently delayed as Le Harve is closed so it went Amsterdam instead along the way!

OMG I accidentally booked the cruise on the 17th, that's next Friday, I only get out of rehab next Thursday from this weeks cruise, I hope I make it to the docks on time Lucky I managed to change my Singapore flights to the 31st, wait a minute I wonder if I could do this one as well and get to Heathrow in time?

My boys loved the MSC cruises we did. Made friends and had loads of fun. Northern Europe was a bit grey at that time of year! They have fab staterooms that are really good size for families x

🔥 What a price for a solo, balcony 7 day cruise..tho not sure whether you'd want a balcony for the North Sea in March . Really good spot by the OP.

Again, I'm confused about their 'from £17 pppn premium drinks package' ...also good that the price includes 'prepaid gratuities'! Therefore that's implying tip as you go?

15% service charge on everything you purchase on board.

Buy the drinks package at point of purchase. After that point the price rockets. It then rockets again to £400 per person when on board. I’m going on the 17th. Looking forward to it.

Oooh, if I wasn't going to Antalya, Turkey with the Jet2 AI deal on that day....
  20. hotsir's avatar
    It’s gone down to £352!!
  21. Mentos's avatar
Wow, the family price is amazing. Week later it’s more than double. Although for school hols even that isn’t too bad.

If you buy the drinks package is there anything other then Wi-Fi you’d realistically need to buy?
    Darkranger's avatar
The digital photo package. It was around £100 last year. Every night there are professional photographers dotted around waiting to take your picture. Just hand over your key card and they will take as many photos as you like. We downloaded ours when we got home, some are exceptionally good. Over our 2 week cruise the 4 of us amounted nearly 500 photos😬.

Hope the sea is lovely and calm this time of year

Maybe a silly question but how does travel insurance work with cruises? I usually buy single trip travel insurance for a country or annual but do you need special travel insurance for cruises where you stop at different countries?
    Gadgetdeals's avatar
Admiral charged £7 for last weeks cruise, if the worse was to happen and you had to have a helicopter take you off I doubt it would be cheap, maybe £50k or so for a few quid peace of mind!

Can you enjoy a cruise at this time of year if you suffer from motion sickness. Is it constantly noticeable or only when you hit a bit of bad weather etc?
    getmore4less's avatar
These trips have been relatively calm, there is motion all the time except when dead calm no wind.

Sick bags are the sign they expect more ship motion.

Most don't notice after a while.
If stormy weather happens with 5m+ seas the ship moves a lot more.

Had a lot worse in the summer in the med

People will say don't worry the ship has stabilizers they have limited operation range and only reduce some movements.
  25. CarlFredericksen's avatar
I think it’s gone up now
    getmore4less's avatar
Price changes are often due to availability cabins grades, the cheaper ones sell out.

Worth checking regularly as they move people to free up cheap cabins.

Well I hope no one is out there this week it is UTTER HELL, have a look at this, force 8 and 9's EVERYWHERE metoffice.gov.uk/wea…ast

For ships it the sea conditions not the winds that make the big difference

2m off the coast of Netherlands for today tomorrow where the ship is.

It's been fine so far, pretty much the same as last week.

A bit more motion last night on the run down to Zeebrugge from Hamburg.

More wind and rain in Zeebrugge than last week

Tomorrow looking ok for Rotterdam forecast has sunny day 7c.

Le Havre forecast is warmer and sunnier than last week.
  27. getmore4less's avatar
Zeebrugge wind dropped and suns come out.

Hey just wanted to know how the visa works in various locations? So, the British passport holders don't need a visa to Europe? I am an expat with Indian passport and curious to know how does the visa works on cruises from Southampton.. (edited)

4 days until I sail and I have still not had my tickets emailed to me Have phoned up MSC who said call cruise.co.uk who said they cannot do anything but will escalate it with seascanner. I have also submitted the seascanner contact form.
    Gadgetdeals's avatar
Seascanner can take 4 or more days to reply so don't hold your breath, Cruise.co.uk distance themselves from Seascanner although part of the same company because cruise.co.uk charge a little more for a human and Seascanner is cheap as its robots, all fine until something goes wrong or you want to change something. However I think you will find your tickets will arrive later today or tomorrow, not helpful if you have to arrange printing as you WILL have to print out the front couple of pages booking form, the health questionnaire and then sign it, and your baggage label, the rest you can keep in digital format.

It's not a nice feeling but don't panic, all will be OK, Seascannner are known for only sending out last minute booking tickets 2 days before departure, its happened to me!
  30. getmore4less's avatar
Luggage tags can be done at the port.
They did not bother with the health questionnaire at the port 3rd, if they need one and you don't have it you can do it at the port
  31. getmore4less's avatar
Be careful reports of noro cases on the current trip.

Be interesting if they have reinstated the health questionnaire tomorrow
    AN_786's avatar
Where’d you hear that? from someone onboard? Hope they disinfect all cabins fully.
  32. getmore4less's avatar
Looks like the ship dodged the German strikes that closed Hamburg during the week and nearly shut it again late afternoon.
  33. getmore4less's avatar
How were the seas into Southampton?
    danmasonmp's avatar
a little rocky but a couple whiskeys before bed knocked me out
