I've been on the lookout for a cheap to run colour printer, this seems a decent option, currently 28% discount, though cccamel shows it dropped to £300 back in Nov.

    Laser printer for life

The main reason against laser in my mind is the power usage. Frequently using 400-600W is alot during laser print. The Ecotank uses about 20w. (edited)

So what’s the difference between this and the ET4800 which is selling for £221 currently.

The Epson EcoTank ET-3850 and the Epson EcoTank ET-4800 are very similar supertank printers, with a few differences. The ET-3850 has a larger display, much higher page yields, and faster printing speeds. Also, the ET-3850 can print double-sided automatically, whereas you need to flip over the sheets manually with the ET-4800. On the other hand, the ET-4800 has built-in fax and prints photos with better detail and color accuracy.

Although it's a massive outlay initially compared to standard ink cartridge printers (their low price of course subsidised by ink costs) I can't recommend an Ecotank highly enough. I've got the 4850 so pretty similar. Have had it for more than 6 months and black ink tank only half empty and colour tanks more than half full. Large family with a lot of educational printing - regular 100 page prints. Quality is good, including for photos which was a surprise. Good price so heat. (edited)

From what I can gather the 4850 is exactly the same as the 3850 + a fax facility.

They're definitely built with a cheaper feel. Insanely good running cost for some though, to offset the higher upfront cost and the chassis build.
