Bought one of these from Argos at this price but haven't opened it and set it up yet. My last two printers have been HP and they haven't lasted long and were a bit buggy, so decided to switch brands and went for Epsom. The other reason this appealed to me was that the ink cartridges seem to be a lot a cheaper. Going to set this up today. Fingers crossed I have a better experience than what I've had with HP.

Yasirsehg

Ordered. Thanks OP

batel

Got one today, thanks! And cheap inks on Prink too. Not usually had issues with cheap inks before from here so 🤞

After years as a loyal Epson follower, I've recently switched to HP. I loved my Epson's but used to find that after a few years of non-gen cartridge use, they would eventually fail... or it would take an hour and several head cleans/cartridge changes just to print a few photo's off (annoyed) Well happy with my £40 HP and I love the Instant Ink service - it's great, even for the casual user. Heat OP, but I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon (y)

hellop4nda

What the people above have said - cheap third party cartridges and you're basically set for the next few years, just make sure to print every week, or every month at the very least to keep the ink flowing or it will clog. Reality of inkjet printers, regardless of brand, before anyone decides to throw shade at these printers. :D

Yes, You can decline the updates no problem. I guess Epson could prevent you using certain features if you don't update i,e Epson email print, remote print etc.. I don't use those features myself and can't confirm either way.

Bought one of these to replace my last Epson printer which sadly stopped working, Basically some firmware error prevented it communicating with my pc. It was reliable up until that point. I paid about £30 for loads of ink off ebay and it lasted years. I like the cheap compatible inks.

zeshan.ditta

This is the problem I had with my last epson printer. Which I had owned for 5 years. That’s why had to buy a new one. So 5 years isn’t bad. Never had a problem prior to this.

djmills211

That's fair comment and point taken that I should have been more specific..... It constantly jams, often become mis-aligned, the Wi-Fi keeps needing to be re-connected, the scanner often doesnt send anything to the laptop, the print quality leaves lines on the page, regardless of cleaning the print heads with both oem or reman inks, it tells you there is a paper jam when there isn't, it has sensor issues making it say there is no paper when there is.

hellop4nda

Bad for who, the consumer, or the company's profits? Doesn't take someone in the industry for 25 years to realise that the options out there pale in comparison (think HP printers whose cartridges cost over a tenner each and last only a few hundred pages) if you print over a hundred pages a month. Maybe it would help by saying what's bad about it, instead of outright dismissing it as a valid option for everyone else, you may even find that someone could help you with your problem.

Ian654321

I’ve got one of these and it’s rubbish. Ink dries up in the pipes if you use it infrequently meaning I have to do a full head clean every time I use it.

Apologies you were right. Although it says ink cartridges in the description, the highlighted box option is 'without ink' and if you click on 'with ink' the price doubles.

I have an ecotank and its great. loads of ink included and your set long term. Dont expect it to print as quick as a big corporate office printer, but its not slow! linked easy with wifi

MM0SDK

Between that and they heads drying out and clogging is what's making me think go for laser for the first time. Never had a laser before. I'm not a heavy enough user of print, but point blank refuse to buy carts any more. I haven't written off ecotank because of excellent price of ink, but the above puts me off.

tightar5e

In fairness, not a bad price for that part, though it's £11.94 delivered. Any idea how many cleans? 10 Manual head cleans is about what they used to be, so bound to be less. Let's face it, if you buy this printer, you'll need to buy this too.

Cash back has tracked at £7.63.

250 better? But seriously it's hard to tell from the website but they look very similar. The 3000 gets an extra set of colour refills compared to the 2750.

rpdmallett

I’ve had this for a few months, and its predecessor (7620) for 3 years before that. Print quality has always been good and we use it to print our yearly photo calendars. Never seen any stripes or lines. Worth trying different (glossy) paper?

PulisOut

I got one of these. It's ok and very handy if you want to do A3 or large scans but the image quality is not great, or should I say I've never been able to optimise it to not get lines on photos. Ink is a bit expensive if you use it a lot too. Having said that it's worth the price over printer that don't have the features this does. Perhaps I'm used to business printers that you won't get for anywhere near this price :-) used some great Wax printers.

This is how printers should be. Pay more for the printer & cheap inks, not cheap printers & ink costing more that its weight in gold

Chocmonster

I've had an Ecotank for a few years now and really hammered it (nearly 7,000 colour pages!). One good thing is that you don't have to buy a whole set of inks, you can just buy whichever colour is running low at the time. I've stuck to buying real Epson inks as the compatables aren't much cheaper. As others have said a quick head clean and off it goes again and as you've got the bulk ink you're not worried about the cartridges all being used up.

anouj

Same, the last three printers I've had have always broke before those packs of compatable ink from Amazon even get used up

thedogspollocks

I've been using the et-2550 for two years regularly and only had to top up the black once. occasionally there are some issues but nothing that a heading cleaning doesn't fix. I recommend. There's also the feeling satisfaction from not having to shell out for overpriced cartridges, you can't put a price on that.

TheBestFreebieisHumour

Best price for a set of ecotank 664 bottles on eBay seems to be about £29.50 at the moment...not sure how many pages this makes

I’ve got this printer it a good one. I have had it for over a year. No problem with it what so ever. (Ttip for artists) I paint for a living and needed it to print of my copies of paintings. If you buy Epson picture paper it’s about £10 for 50 sheets this will print out picture perfect photos no need to go and print them online and the ink is cheap as well you do not need branded Epson in any ink with good reviews on Amazon will do. Happy printing, heat from me xxx

Mkdon

thanks for that. il give it a try

crazy_b

Discordant spray gets ink off everything. Try spraying loads onto some kitchen roll, fold it up in a thin line along where the ink runs, move the cartridge along it backwards and forwards until you see loads of black ink. Cleared it for me twice anyway. Make sure it’s soaked with deodorant spray

Mkdon

how do you fix it? ive tried everything. all the other colours come out fien but wheneve we print letters or anything black it comes out bent and very faded even if i use a brand new cartridge.

itchyone

Got the XP-245 model. If you use genuine ink it costs a fortune, that's how they get their money out of you and why printers are dirt cheap. I've not had good experiences with cheaper compatible inks personally. Printing in black when one of the colours is low or out is not possible, annoyingly. Will be getting a HP with instant ink sub next time.

Wondered why mine had stopped working. Thanks for the info

wanderer

Mine was xp 445 and use to use the same cheap inks.. Until i was asked to do a firmware update..unsure if they are given the update at the factory tho. I returned mine after the update to curry's under their cover warranty said it no longer takes cartridges and they were fine. There was a court case which epson won the right to protect their business as I assume they make the cash on the inks. Hp did the same but backed down after alot og complaint on the forums.

JPS

Whatttt! That's disgraceful. Do you know if this is the same on all new Epson printers? I was about to buy the XP 245 and was hoping to use complete £3.99 ink sets from eBay :/
