Got this last year on a cheap deal (not as cheap as this). It's very basic but absolutely fine for printing the odd worksheet or occasional photocopy.

No good for photos and doesn't print edge to edge.

Remember, sign up to the highest subscription for the 6 months but remember to reduce it or cancel before the 6mths run out.

I sell lots of them. Just as dependable as any other home printer in my experience. Just a bit more clattery with front loading cartridges. Can be a pain to setup if you don't have a WiFi computer in which case use a smartphone or tablet with the HP Smart app. Almost impossible to setup on Windows 7 despite supporting it.

The 6030 one above it is a more pleasing build.

Said on a previous deal that I wouldn't buy this again. Can work fine sometimes but more often than not it states offline and won't print, even when connected with usb cable. After alot of messing it can normally be sorted and works but quality is poor.
I would spend a little more elsewhere next time not to have the hassle.

dont think so- if you have a subscription the only way is to do it would be to use a new email address and register this printer under a second account.

These printers remind me of the old games consoles- cost a fortune when they first came out then got as cheap as chips purely as more money was made by software (for games consoles) and printer cartridges in case of the printers.

Oh and the other thing to remember is that by signing up to HP+ I think you are only able to use genuine original HP cartridges. You can't use third party ink even if you unsubscribe. The only way to use third party ink is not to subscribe to HP+ in the first place.

Top tip - don’t bother with the instant ink, if you’re buying this type of printer chances are you’re not going to use that much so don’t bother with the faff and giving HP your details. In the same vein - when getting the driver, look for their ‘basic’ driver. It’s hidden a way on their site but you only need that. The bundled crap they give you in the normal driver is just pure bloat. (edited)

    I have one of these.

Prints fine - but will bleed you as dry as a Pharoh's flip flops when buying ink.
Unfortunately, I discovered printer companies are like drug pushers, they sell you the essential equipment for next to nothing, and then drain the life out of your wallet when you need ink.
If you want original ink cartridges - its gonna cost £30-£40 a pop to replace both black and colour (maybe slightly less on 3rd party sites if your lucky, but not much less, and the printer often has software updates that might mean certain 3rd party ink cartridges don't work -nightmare).

I learned the hard way - gotta fork out for a more expensive printer in the beginning to make savings over the years in ink. Works out cheaper in the long run.

Plus - the ink cartridge you buy for around £20 will give you just over 200 pages if your lucky.

And, if you don't use it often, the cartidges can dry out over time in my experience (edited)

If I set up the Instant Ink to maximum, what do I achieve by this? More ink cartridges in the 6 months? Or am I wrong
    SiB123's avatar
    SiB123
No, they'll only send you new cartridges when yours are empty. The benefit of being on the highest plan is that you'll be able to print out a higher number of pages.

Cartridges are included in the price whatever plan you're on, when they're nearly empty HP automatically send out replacements.

I signed up on the highest tariff at the time of 300 pages. After a month realised wouldn't print anywhere near that so at the end of the six months downgraded to 50 pages. That suits me and can roll over up to three months worth in case you are running short. PM me if needed

Pitty not available in black, so how does this ink subscription work? What’s the limit they will send you? Guessing I can’t blaze a cartridge per week
    janiex's avatar

You pay for a set amount of pages, so if you had 500 pages a month you can do 500 pages full colour. You get new cartridges sent out before you’d run out of ink, so that you can always keep printing.

For some people, like myself, we just need to print out the odd boarding pass or a once in a blue moon letter. I realise the cartridges will dry out without taking precautions, but the prescribed method of keeping them in a damp sealed container until needed, isn’t a biggie in my scenario.

The cheapest half decent lazer printer is about £150, three times what I will pay for this printer plus a couple of spare cartridges that will probably see me out several years.

For some of us, admittedly not all, this type of printer, even with high cartridge costs, makes good economic sense.
