£100 for a battered old iPhone when the honor x7 was £99 earlier...

    The mind boggles

£100 gets you a A13 bionic with 3gb ram which smashes anything around the Snapdragon 855 level, nevermind the awful SoC inside the Honor x7. Then there is the software support, you will be lucky to get another years updates whilst the iPhone will be supported until at least iOS 18.
That's before you even consider stuff like your privacy, Chinese spyware phone versus Apples pretty locked down system which has enough privacy settings that Facebook lost a billion overnight from one Apple software change as they couldn't identity users anymore.

Sure people will mention the screen and size but some people like phones that fit in a pocket and don't require a man bag just to carry them outside the house.

It's all about the battery % - am I missing their battery claims for these handsets ?

If you care about battery life, Apple really isn't your brand- it's as simple as that. The SE is about size, convenience, the camera, and performance. But I wouldn't use a second hand one without a battery case.

If you don't mind the size, bezels and battery life you will struggle to get a better phone for £100.
Still ongoing software support for years, A13 Bionic chip which beats Snapdragon 855, camera is good enough, good privacy settings etc.
I've been using one for a while whilst waiting for iPhone 11 to drop in price closed to £100 and it's a really great phone.

I had this exact iPhone and eventually gave it away for three reasons: a) the battery life was poor even from new. Even with very little use it'd barely last more than a day. b) the screen size, and therefore the size of the on-screen keyboard, are now starting to become an issue as I get older, c) the abomination that is iTunes. I used to be able (many years ago) to use Windows Media Player to sync my music to the phone but Apple want you using their software only and locked it down.

I may have another iPhone at some point - possibly next year depending on the rumored 2024 SE, but I'm not spending £600+ on a phone, any phone, regardless how much the press lauds it.

That is a decent price to try out the Apple world if you new to them I really liked my old original SE had it from new screen just getting smaller though!

The screen's not getting smaller, you're getting bigger!

This is an absolute bargain under all accounts - incredible device for £100. Let's just hope the battery condition is good, because you definitely start to notice poor battery on these once the battery health degrades!

I'm not a fan of this phone as you will probably be charging twice a day, (that's me experience,) and the very outdated screen & design.

However, I've voted Hot, due to the price. Good find Switchy. (edited)

Great little phone and should be supported to iOS 19.I paid 70 for mine in mint condition with 86bh off eBay.The iPhone 8 screen glass and case fits.Mine averages around three hours screen time a day of mixed use,it’s in 75 percent now but barely used it today as had busy day at work

That 3 hours compares to over ten hours of harder use on a good android phone at around 120 quid new (or even 65 quid new for those of us that bought those amazing Xiaomi deals months ago). Personally I don't understand how anyone puts up with Apple's atrocious battery life. And once aged, an Apple phone becomes so unreliable with respect to the battery life indicator, unless the indicator shows over 50% charge (I mean the on screen indicator, NOT the battery wear status).

Seems like a good deal to me especially if you luck out and the condition is decent.

Aren’t these the A13 chip not the A11?? @MrSwitch (edited)

Definitely. They get updates for about 6 years, so the 2nd gen SE from 2020 should go up to around iOS 19.

What is shocking with Apple is how high the apparent charge can be, and yet still have a battery fail event when using it. Android phones work fine at 10% charge, but I wouldn't trust a months old Apple phone below 50% charge, and that's from first hand experience. Also even when (supposedly) fully off, Apple phones are secretly on, and using power. Most Android phones use no power when fully off.
