Great price but setting up account with Roku is a pain in the neck to much information card details etc I wouldn’t buy another because of it

These support captive portals which is important if you travel and want to use them in hotels My Roku has lasted for years and I shall mourn it when it finally dies 😥

Doesn’t play back hevc h265 via Plex in at least some cases. I returned mine for this reason and got a firestick

    This vs firestick?

I have 4 fire sticks and a Hisense Roku TV. I use a Firestick in the Roku TV as it’s just so limited, including the fact that Freeview on Roku no longer has ITV and the ITVX app on Roku doesn’t have any option to stream live TV.

These are great esp when travelling. However, ours was bought new from amazon, looked new, all cables wrapped but incredibly had been used and setup - the numpties returned it and didn't wipe the ac's they'd set up inc their netflix . So just make sure it is new. Moaned to amazon who didn't care a jot and threw some credit my way as I wantred to keep it.

Is there any point in this if you have a smart tv?

Yes. Those sticks far better than smart TV

Is there much difference between this and the basic Roku box Argos are selling for 20 quid? Other than 4K obviously. I would be mainly using it for YouTube. (edited)

1gb of ram instead of 512kb, dual band wi-fi and a better processor. In the short term probrably not, but recently YouTube wanted to use a better codec to make YouTube more effecient, this would have made YouTube unable to play on basic hardware, they have backed down for now, but it is inevitable to happen in the future, if so I guess the 4K will support YouTube for longer as it has better hardware.
