these have massive battery problems, new ones are supposed to be "fixed" but i'd generally advise staying away. reddit.com/r/S…es/ mine are complete garbage after 1.5 years. extremely disappointed. hoping they'll accept an RMA.

If you want them, just buy them and if there are any issues return them within your 2yr right. Pretty simple really if bought from Amazon.

How well does the speak to chat feature work? I listen to Podcasts all day but have to deal with the odd customer.

Really well, it does add to battery drainage and you'll find yourself asking people to repeat their first words again but 1s after you speak they'll pause play and go to full ambient sound.

Hoping for a good deal when the announce the 5s. Will probably hang off for now.

I would still buy the xm5s. The wf-1000xm4 are excellent but if you have a try of wh-1000xm5s the extra clarity and noise cancelling improvements are much improved

These are brilliant. Been using them every day for a year. Love them. Changed the tips to silicone which I much prefer though.

Ditto. These are superb and I've had mine a year or so. The original foam tips were useless for me but a cheap set of replacement silicone ones from Amazon fixed the issue.

I've sent mine back due to battery issues and went down a different route

The sound quality from these is easily as good as the Sony pair and so far no battery issues

You could wait for ever or get the best you can now

Tried these on a s23 ultra and they sounded like trash compared to xm3s. Must be a phone issue

Did you listen to hires like flac or tidal mater sources using ldac?

These are always near the top of any true wireless earphones, Yes, i have had the battery issue but they were both replaced and now back to their normal excellence (edited)

How did you even get them replaced - Sony keeps denying my requests saying it's expected wear and tear

Anyone aware of the "metallic sound" issue? Mine generated metallic "ding" sound in left earpiece mostly while listening to podcasts, vlogs or ebooks, couldn't hear it when playing music. Plenty of people reporting same problem, but Sony is denying it as usual.
It is not a firmware but some design flaw. Happens with any sources on different devices.
Apparently it could be sorted by pushing down the black foam that is glued inside the canal. But it will restrict the membrane causing loss of sound quality.
I couldn't be bothered with this and returned mine to Amazon. Hope XM5 will have this resolved. (edited)

I have this exact issue with mine and I found a thread on Reddit with loads of people having the exact same issue. Sound quality is great for music but can be very annoying for an avid podcast listener like myself or if you make a lot of calls with them.

Amazing sound quality worth every penny. bought "like new" from Amazon for £100 and changed the tips to silicon.

Mine were, going back today, first set the charging case kept flashing red (tried every solution but failed), now left bud has rapid battery drop, right was 75% and left flat. Not trying again. Shame as the best sound ever but for only 20 minutes :-(

As long as you are happy with the batteries in the WF-1000XM4 earphones lasting for at least 1 year and a half. I had 2 separate sets of the WF-1000XM4 and the batteries in both sets lasted less than 1 year and a half. The only real solution is to order replacement batteries from AliExpress and to open up the earphones and change the batteries yourself.

I will add that people were attributing the battery problem to the firmware version 1.4, but I do not think that is what the issue is. I believe the problem is that the ZeniPower Z55H battery that the WF-1000XM4 uses is not made for longevity. Maybe 500 to 600 charge cycles. Expect the battery to last for at least 1,300 hours before you start experiencing battery issues.

EDIT: I think Sony has limited the level the battery can be charged to with the firmware version 1.6 or 2.0 to increase the number of charge cycles for the batteries so that the batteries will last longer. The earphones will still show as being charged to 100%, but are really only charged to 85% or 90%. (edited)

Received mine over the weekend. Disappointed until I changed the tips to some old silicone ones I had lying around. Now sound incredible! One thing though remember not to sing along if you have voice activation enabled!!!
