HP and all inkjets are a scam, cheap printers and pay indecent prices for inks. I also hear HP subscriptions can brick your printers if you want to cancel.

Wow you should avoid HP like the plague see below. The only printer brand you should throw your money at is a Brother printer. This is hot garbage

Get a Brother laser, and never be stressed by inkjets again... (If you want to print photos, just use the online places).

Avoid HP, they are scoundrels and should be boycotted. But I thought everyone knew that.

hp offer a 2 year warranty on ALL printers when you sign up for Instant Ink (it's called HP+) (edited)

With Insta Ink they also offer

    1) Printer will work only when connected to internet else it's dead as a stone
    2) Post free ink period, you need to buy expensive regular ink which cost equivalent to printer.
    3) If you subscribe to print plan after free period, you would be able to print limited number of pages as per the plan and no more page even though there was ink left in the cartirage (edited)

OK, lots of displeasure with HP - anyone recommend an alternative pls? Say from Brother

Small paper feed. Very slow. Gets jammed a lot. I would not recommend. Even with the free months

Below one at Argos would be better choice if you could refil ink. HP printer will stop working once free ink plan get finished and you will need to buy costly regular ink if you want to continue use after termination of free ink plan. and of course these regular ink cartridges could refilled. Many videos on YouTube show how to do.

Canon one has auto duplex printing

Argos was offering 10% discount two days ago. May come again.

Had a similar type Hp for 2 years. The printer quality is great. Cartridges are not particularly cheap but wasy to find...

BUT THE HP SOFTWARE IS TERRIBLE... it hates printing anything. You pretty much have to use HP's own software to print anything... you can't print from Word or Excel... everything has to be saved then printed from the HP app...

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER UNLESS YOU ARE GIVING IT TO YOUR ENEMY!

Look at other online reviews that will confirm my story.

Did not vote hot or cold.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER !
    YOU WON'T OWN IT.

This post is always onhere every 2 months, seriously HP, bugger off.

It only works if connected to their server, regardless of what you do. You have to have an active subscription for it to do anything. Let's say you;re a simp and agree to it. The software is so horrible, i ended up throwing 2 away. I considered giving it to charity, but I wouldn't do it to my worst enemy, so in the skip they went.

When the 9months instant ink ends, you're done. The ink cartridges only print about 100 pages too. The "original" hp cartridges are more expensive than the printer. If you buy from somewhere else, they will block you from using them, their cartridges have chips in them. I was hoping its a known fact that their markup on ink in 50000%, and printers in general are scam. You don't need a printer nowadays, everythign is on email. Stop printing and let these sort of companies die. Seriously, this is some american-level consumer-fuckery and it's put me off from buying any HP ever again. (edited)

I have an older version and kids love printing to it from the ipads etc.. very simple to use and i would always recommend the instant ink stuff as its works out about 2 quid a month.

What's the print quality like on This?
  20. gungesh's avatar
Got this printer 2 weeks back and it is decent but it is terribly slow and a very small feeder. It can hold 5-10 pages
  21. Saver77's avatar
Can the instant ink code be added to the current subscription? Nothing wrong with my current printer but paying almost the same for the existing subscription so why not have a new backup printer
    00_TooLazyToGoogle's avatar
I wish to do the same as my printer only prints in black now. It doesn’t recognise the dual printer cartridges any more.
  22. TekWoodyatt1's avatar
Slow print speed, decent quality, glitchy software, and can’t hold many pages. If you don’t print much, i’d just encourage you to use a community centre, or library, rather than “waste” money on this. “Waste” as £45 isn’t exactly breaking the bank.. but yk.
  23. ikabod32's avatar
I have this printer . It's not great. It's very glitchy. However 9 months hp ink is well worth putting up with with its faults. My hp ink subscription is almost out , so I'll probably order this package again. As long as you dont inflate your expectations - it's a great deal.
    villageidiotdan's avatar
Hold on, so are you saying you'll buy a new printer? Not blaming you but that's a terrible look for a company to market their product in such a way that it encourages landfill
  24. newbie68's avatar
I would love to know the manufacturing cost of making this. Are the selling near cost as the money is clearly in ink?
    Yahyasajid's avatar
I've got an older HP printer and money's definitely in ink

About 10 years old and same exact business model (3 in 1 printed cost 35) and single cartridge is half that

Argh the old HP printer.. stay well clear of HP's.
if you think your going to be able to refill / buy compatibles YOU WON'T
well you can buy them you just won't be able to use them.
Doh! someone already posted the link..
    From the link above
No, the genius of HP’s latest scheme is that it’s hiding in plain sight, daring you to unwittingly sign away your rights. Take the free ink, and HP controls your printer for life.
    also read HP's own documentation..
“In fact, the only way a customer can get rid of HP+ once activated is to buy a new printer,” the IITC writes. HP didn’t answer our questions about the firmware update, including why it isn’t prominently disclosed that there’s no way to uninstall it. (edited)

I had an HP printer with instant ink and I hated it. It would always run out of ink then there'd be a gap until they sent you another refill where I couldn't print anything which seemed to defeat the point. Bought a Canon megatank printer instead, u just buy bottles of ink to fill the tanks. I print most days and I've refilled it once in a year (bottles of ink were about £10 last time I looked) so for me it's amazing value.

I guess it all depends on how much you print, for me Instant Ink is perfect as i only print about once a week, i purchased a used Deskjet off eBay for about £8.50 a few years ago, also got a 500 pack of A4 papers for a few quid, still using it to this day, only problem i had once was when the ink cartridge was faulty and failed to print properly, but they automatically sent out a new cartridge.
  28. alikcan's avatar
I have the printer and it’s run out of ink - it costs me about £15-20 to get another pair of ink. The first pair ran out 3-4 months time and I only printed shipping labels once a while.
    dré.'s avatar
for infrequent label printing, a cheap laser would be better (or a specialised label printer)
  29. bullwinkler's avatar
This doesn’t even have automatic two sided printing

What's the best printer alternative then if not opting for one of these? Around the same price point.

I bought an HP printer for very little with like 18 months of free instant ink a few years ago, it was a great deal because I am still able to use cheap cartridges instead of the expensive originals

Still, HP is an incredibly unethical company, When I tried to cancel the subscription I was forced to pay for an extra month in advance without having access to the service, I don't even know how they're even legally allowed to do that. They also generate an insane amount of E-waste with their dodgy practices

Instant ink works great - not paid for ink for years.
