Looks like a great price at first - but 8gig is a stupidly small amount of RAM for a powerful machine, and can't be upgraded.

I genuinely feel sorry for people who pay almost 600 pounds for a computer with 8gb of RAM in 2023

Hoping this drops down to 500 pounds. It has been as low as 500 dollars on Amazon US.

Plus whatever tax depending on the state presumably.

I’m here for “oh no it’s only 8GB RAM rubbish” comments

It's a pretty big issue for the majority of people especially creatives. It makes this useless.

I think the Mac Mini is decent enough and the M2 chip is great but I agree with others - and yes I am aware of how unified memory works - that 8GB is it's Achilles heel.

    Apple's own website:
Your Mac mini comes standard with 8GB of memory — more than enough for the things you do every day and for running multiple applications at once. For bigger tasks, like editing high-resolution images, you can configure your Mac mini with up to 24GB. The more unified memory you choose, the more apps you can run simultaneously with a higher rate of performance.

The last sentence underlines the fact that, just like normal ram, the more you have the better. It may work differently but ultimately you will soon outgrow this especially as apps are only going to get larger as AI becomes embedded etc.

As soon as you add in the price of an extra 8GB and a bigger external drive it's not that cheap anymore.

Bought mine a couple of months ago. I use it for work (audio editing) and general daily use (email, Slack and YouTube) . It draws a fraction of the power my PC does and I’ve not had any issues with the 8 gb of RAM. It’s a brilliant little every day computer.
Another plus is being able to use my iPhone 13 Pro as the webcam. Amazing video call quality.

My Windows laptop has 16GB RAM soldered onto the board. I regret buying it now since RAM are so cheap & I have no way of taking advantage of it. I will never buy soldered RAM/SSD again.

Get used to it with apple, the memory is part of the cpu die. Even Pros you have to specify your memory up front this year

I do have an Mac mini with m1 and if you do 4k video editing (not at professional levels) this is an absolute steal but for rest of the people the new mini pc with amd 5800H or 6800H are a far better option ( upgradable ram and storage) .

Yes, it must be absolute joy to only have enough hard disk space to work on one 4k video file at a time!

    It’s 2023 for gawd sake.

Got my M2 Mini a couple of months ago, a good deal cheaper than this, using the TOTUM discount route and posted the deal on HDUK. The deal is still available to anyone who has or obtains a Totum card (easy to do)

It replaced my 2017 iMac with this Mac Mini. Its a brilliant bit of kit!

Is TOTUM only available to student?

I currently have an iMac 27" Late 2013. I wanted to upgrade and looking at this as the definitive choice. I am assuming I keep my current wireless keyboard and magic mouse and sell the iMac and additionally need a new monitor only? Also any recommendations for a mid-range monitor? TIA

I just got a Mac Mini M1 as a refurb in “good condition” from MusicMagpie on eBay for £424.99. Is this a good price? Just waiting to see the condition it arrives in, hopefully I get lucky.
