I did some research on this at Xmas when this same M1 Max deal was last on, as I want to replace my high-spec late 2015 iMac 27".

After watching lots of YouTube video and reading reviews. My conclusion:
    - If you are doing single CPU tasks and/or not hitting the GPU, get the faster (& cheaper!) Mac Mini M2 Pro.
    - If you do heavy GPU based tasks, then this M1 Max is better than a M2 Pro, but light years behind the M2 Max.

    Hope this info helps somebody.

Just a small issue you mention the Mini Pro 2 being cheaper but in the graphs your showing the M2 Pro 12 core version which is not cheaper, thats the 10 core machine. Plus the Max has 32GB of memory which for some will also make a difference which again if you added to the 10 core Mini Pro would make it more expensive.

In the end I gave up working out which one to upgrade to, Im on a M1 mini and apart from gaming Im happy with it (yes I know Mac isn't a gaming machine but the RPG games I like do come out on it). In the end I gave up and got a Ayaneo AM02 and will use that for my gaming needs just hate the fan noise but I can wear headphones. (edited)

Great price for this. I bit last time but ending up returning it as I got sucked into the hype for video editing performance and it couldn’t compete with my PC desktop. Recently tested again with an M3 Max (laptop form) and again my PC was far quicker for my work flow which is predominantly lots of magic masking in DaVinci resolve studio. Outside of that very specific task this thing flies, so much so I’m considering buying this again to use for everything else!

It’s almost as if… Apple exaggerates their product

M1 Max can connect to > 2 screens though. It's ridiculous this doesn't have a slot for expanding internal storage, even the PS5 has that!
