(Personally in no rush - I took over a year to have a try of XM4s - and would be very surprised if there wasn't a better price available by the November sales, but could be good for people who can't wait to get their hands on them.)

(And also a lot of retailers will be carrying these that have discounted vouchers/cashback available, like Currys, Argos etc which could be other options for non-students.)

The XM4's are great cans, so expect the same with these.
    dewe3's avatar
    These aren't cans, they're buds

233£ for wireless earphones that sound worse than 50£ wired ones
    jinjur's avatar
Can't imagine how you can even remotely qualify that seeing as these are literally just out........also, would be interesting to see the "50£ wired ones" that have ANC that comes even close to the same calibre as these (or the XM4's for that) and offer the same sound.........link that up. Let's not even get into the wired bit for now.

XM4s are amazing. Going to wait for Rting review on these
    Daray's avatar
According to Rting you should buy Bose or AirPods Pro.

Hope there will be no issue getting genuine replacement foam tips like it is with 4s
    thejuanpacer's avatar
Comply foam tips work really well.

I’m in. XM4s are the best thing i’ve bought the past few years, no doubt these will be the same.

Can you use just one earbud independently with the xm5's whilst the other is in the case and if so can you use either left or right? I can with my galaxy buds but I know some of the previous Sonys couldn't do this
    Ihfaz's avatar
All the previous models CAN be used independently. You just need to turn off voice assistant unfortunately.

Just curious not had Wireless buds ever, how would the XM4 or XM5 wireless buds compare to say
Sony WF-C500 given such a massive price difference?
    Chris5626's avatar
I've only tried the WF-C500 briefly but they seemed pretty solid to me.

The XM4's are really good BUT it's all about what's important to the user and how they perceive value.

I'd say the biggest difference to most users would be the ANC (active noise cancelling).

I think there's definitely a point of diminishing returns.

It's also worth noting that some people struggle to discern the difference in terms of sound quality so even if you buy headphones/earbuds with better sound you might not be able to really tell as much of the difference, if at all.

Ultimately if you're looking for the best on the market, this is the sort of price you're going to be looking at but for most people you don't need to spend this much for a product that will meet your needs. (edited)

Wouldn't trust Sony headphones again - had the same issue with battery drain on the XM4s as other users, just over 2 years after purchase (so just out of warranty). My right ear bud now goes from 'fully charged' to completely dead in ~15 minutes. Really poor for a supposedly quality product. Customer support have offered no help either, just directed me to their paid repair service. (edited)

    Good buy.

With an Apple logo these would £4 to £5K.
    SuffolkLad222's avatar
These ones are also in the £4 to £5000 range
  10. johnorgail's avatar
All the reviews say that these are smaller and slightly better than the 4’s, but not significantly improved.

I’ll wait and see if software updates can do anything more before I bite and prices will tumble soon enough anyway if these are bettered by the competition.
  11. the_mercy_of_percy's avatar
Really tempted to get a pair of these but after hearing all the low key complaints about them like battery drain I'm going to give them a month for some longer term reviews. Congrats on the first post for the earbuds tho OP!
  12. malachi's avatar
Will be getting these, my 2nd pair of XM4s are currently in the repair for the known battery drain problem.
    fuzed's avatar
I've not had issues with battery drain as of yet, what is the issue?
  13. gundo's avatar
I have had my XM4's for a couple of years and "they do what they say on the tin", excellent sound quality, good ANC and decent battery life. Wasted money on alternatives prior to getting them and the XM4's didn't disappoint, I doubt the XM5's will disappoint either.

However the foam ear tips were rubbish and I replaced them with some silicone ones from Amazon for £8 and then they were spot on. (edited)
    The_Blue_One's avatar
I hate the Comply style tips. What silicone versions did you buy? And did you notice any drop in the ANC as I felt the foam tips where doing some of the heavy lifting regarding isolation. (edited)

I am a regular sony customer and the one thing I have learned is never buy a Sony the first time it comes out. I have the XM4 and the A-306 walkman - both of which need updates after the first three to five months to correct user issues. Both are stunning pieces of tech and well worth the money, but then I don't use them for calls or streaming which tend to be the things most people squinny about. It's best to wait a few months (black friday would be a good bet).

It was noticeable that when the A-306 was launched it got 5 star reviews even though it emerged about 5 months later that there was a major sound issue! Some of these youtube reviewers do not know what they are talking about.

I'll wait until the long-term reviews come in before gambling - particularly at this price.

I love my Airpods Pro 2 but I'm unsure what to go to now I have an Android phone - reckon these are worth a punt?

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro are not great in my opinion, and the XM3s (last Sony variant I tried) were incredibly uncomfortable no matter what eartips I used.
    husnainmohammad's avatar
I would say go for the XM5's if you want the best ANC and sound. The best ones to get are between the Sony and the Bose. Just depends what fits better in your ear. If you don't mind me asking what is wrong with the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 ? I have an S23 Ultra and was interested in them
  16. Vybz's avatar
I have the XM4 since 2021 and the left ear bud started dying very quickly and after doing a quick google search it appears to be a very common problem it seems. Just reached out to Sony support to see how I get these replaced. Hopefully this doesn’t happen to the XM5 because the 4s are some of the best audio devices I have had.
    smokedog's avatar
Let me know how you get on. My XM4 battery issue happened just after the warranty expired. When I reached out to them, they told me to do one.
  17. orlovekat's avatar
    Xm3s were £40 so I don't rate these
  18. Certinfy's avatar
Weird it shows delivery as tomorrow or Thursday, I thought these were out next week?

Either way, even with a pair of XM4s I've ordered these. No doubt will drop in price in the coming months but given how much I use earphones it will be worth it for me even if just a minor upgrade.
    malachi's avatar
July 27th is the offical release date.
  19. Amoykateer's avatar
The XM5's are 25% smaller then the XM4's and 20% lighter. It's the XM4's with a small upgrade in every department + some new features available in the app. I have the XM4's and love them to bits.
  20. aran.naidu's avatar
Lets hope they don't rollout a update that kills the battery life like the XM4s
  21. the_mercy_of_percy's avatar
Based on the deals that came out when the XM4s came out I reckon you'll be able to pick these up for myabe around £200 on black Friday, maybe sub-£200 by the end of the year. That's not to say that OPs deal is a bad one - but for me the lack of some long term reviews, issues with the XM4s and starting price point means that these are still a bit too pricey for me right now.

Would love to hear some HUKD user reviews when you all start receiving them though ! If money was no object I'd buy these straight away too!

Personally, agree with all of this tbh (in my description lol) including wanting to hear XM4 users' views.

My guess is very slightly higher at £229 (£219 maybe?) as only 4 months away, with £199 appearing earlyish in 2024, definitely by Prime in July (£189?) . (edited)

I did try the Bose before I pulled on the XM4's......I have QC25's that I used to use for travel but they did that weird vacuum ear thing with ANC. Don't get me wrong, great ANC. The Bose buds did the same thing for me whereas the XM4's did not......I flippin love them and would expect these XM5's to kick ass.
  24. MrToast's avatar
Reviews so far ain't looking favourable compared to the xm4's for sound quality. by all accounts of the reviews I've seen there is a very small difference
    johnorgail's avatar
One review I read said that they were sent pre-production models to test and that Sony had advised them that not all functions would work as good the retail ones would ?

So performance may improve, if we’re patient enough ? 😁
  25. Star-Lord's avatar
Oh man, I had no idea these were dropping! Amazing!

I have the WF-1000XM4 and they are far and away the best buds I've had. I also own the AirPods Pro 2 and while it is a close battle, I feel the Sony just edge it for sound quality. I love both though, the APP2 working within the Apple Ecosystem is just so convenient.

    Excited to try these.

Please share your thoughts when you've had a good go. I'm very interested in current XM4 users' views.

Make sure you get an extended warranty on these.  Could possibly have a battery issue in the future
    hihdgiisvjdb's avatar
    How'd you get that?
  27. magicone's avatar
How would these be compared with say the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II earphones? I have tried the AirPods Pro 2 but I did not find them comfortable.
    Chris5626's avatar
Last night I was reading Techradar's review (link HERE) and they rated the Bose higher, apparently the Bose ANC is noticably better.
  28. Andrew_Smart's avatar
Very tempting, but I've already got the 4's, and short of selling the used which isn't ideal, would probably sell for a low value to what I presume is equal clarity perceivable to most people. probably not worth a single gen upgrade so soon
  29. hihdgiisvjdb's avatar
Ordered these after my Samsung buds pro not only being a crap fit but one dieing. Do have the xm5 over ears but they are abit excessive size wise just commuting in London.

A friend has the older version who's biggest complaint was the comfort so hoping these are a bit improvement.
    mu1's avatar
I almost gave up on my Samsung pros. Only paid £25 after the trade in deal. Was hesitant to spend a similar amount on ear tips, but the comply eartips completely saved it for me. Went from the most uncomfortable, unsecure fit, to the most comfortable and pretty secure fit earbuds I own. And I pretty much own all the big branded ones.
  30. chrisporada's avatar
I would recommend the Bose QC 2, just slightly ahead of the Sony XM4s.
Bose has amazing ANC and good sound quality.
  31. mu1's avatar
The amount of earbuds I have spent on the xm4s. Too big for my ears, and sound quality isn't as great as people rave.
  32. DonDaggen's avatar
I have the samsung galaxy bud pro 2 and their ANC in nowhere as good as sonys.
However you can pick up bud pro 2 for £75 - 90 on ebay brand new sealed.

Are they worth £75 more than the XM4 that were £149.99 during Prime day? (edited)

Expiring this even though it is still available.

There is currently a very similar offer via Richer Sounds works out £234, available to everyone not just UNIDAYS members.

Just wanted to add, these are still in stock for this price as OP mentioned
